Speedo/Odo issue...and a couple broken parts

Whats up guys,

scroll to the end to see the question:

Little background: I drove to Moab 2 days after finishing the SAS (and barely breaking in the new R&P gears) on my 3rd gen Runner and slammed on some rocks. I wasn't able to finish the build in time for the trip but I decided to go anyways. I didn't have the funds at the time to get a custom front drive shaft built so I only had rear drive and I didn't have time to mount the rear shocks/ fab shock mounts. Little sketchy but we didn't plan to do any serious crawling.
Anyways, I found this rock ledge on a trail with a bypass but decided to try it and couldn't make it up the first try so I bumped it the second time...that was a mistake.
The front axle made it over but when the rear tires hit the whole rear end jumped in the air and slammed back down hard, still under full throttle in 2Lo1st gear. Lotta torque to the rear end with no dampening. Loud SNAP.
I got out and checked the damage. Low and behold what broke? Rear output shaft on the t/case sheared right off and broke both u-joints in the double cardan section of the driveline. So now I was 0wd.
We took the front DS from my buddies 3rd gen and bolted it onto my front end. The flanges were correct but we stretched the f*ck out of the shaft, we maxed the slip and it is single cardan both sides, and operating at a ****y angle. We walked the truck back like 20 miles into town and called it a day. Luckily nothing else broke but I had my friend tow me over a couple obstacles in his WK2 trailhawk (don't tell anyone a jeep towed me)
Drove to CO the next day to get a new t-case and a DS. Awesome dudes at Metric Offroad in Grand Junction helped us out, we picked up a t-case from a 98(?) 4runner and had the rear DS kind of placed back together- just enough to get us home. We swapped the tcase and driveline in the campground dirt, I dont recommend doing that.

TL;DR: broke parts in Moab, got new early model tcase from a 96-98 T4R for my '00 4R and speedo doesn't work...

So I get back home and now I have to smog the truck (thanks CA) but my speedo doesnt work so its throwing a code, ergo no smog.
I was looking at the new tcase I installed and it has a speedo sensor connector ready for a harness but my OEM tcase (year '00) has a plug as if they changed the place for the speed sensor.
After I did the SAS my speedo/Odo stopped working, but I didn't play around with any of the wires up around the tranny/tcase. I did in fact disconnect the ABS sensors from both front and rear axles tho. So I did a little test: I reconnected the rear abs sensors but the speedo still didn't work. BUT the odo started tracking miles again, only at a 100th of the speed. So if I drive 100 miles, the odo will change only by 1 mile. Weird. I looked at some wires at the harness near the tranny/tcase and found that the correct speedo sensor wires are in fact in that harness but they are not connected to anything.
I am left with two options:
1. I splice open the harness above the tcase and get an oem harness and then connect the tcase to that harness and connect that harness to the speedo/odo
OR
2. Rewire the front ABS sensors to each respective rear ABS/ wheel speed sensor (front axle no longer has places for sensors)

So... there it is folks, sorry for the long read but if there are any wiring gurus out there or dudes who know the difference between early model t-cases and late model that would be awesome. Any info is greatly appreciated.

If the new T-case you got has a speedo sensor in it, you got a Taco case (not a problem). You are halfway to having your speedo back.

The stock 4Runner speedo is driven by the ABS computer in the passenger kick panel. Since you have given up on ABS (I'm going to assume here...), you need to replace that speedo signal.

There should be a few write-ups on here on how to do it, wire colors, etc.
