Exclamation (ICV) Advice on for sputtering and stalling issue

Hello everyone, I am in need of some advice: my 4runner is sputtering and stalling at idle and I went to the dealer today and they diagnosed it as a bad idle control valve. They said OEM Toyota part is around $350 (insane) and labor is also $300. And tax of course will be $50. I will take it to another shop to get a quote but is there any way that I can clean this valve without having to replace it? Seafoam perhaps?? I really don’t want to pay this much to replace it, but if it’s my only choice I will do so most likely with a high quality aftermarket option.
Thanks to everyone in advance.

I would start with just the basics before you take it in for a 2nd opinion. I would take off the throttle body and clean it. Remove the IAC and clean out all the gunk. Buy a new gasket from auto store, I think it's like $3. Be prepared with the soft brass screws. I would also clean your MAF sensor while in the process.

If your IAC is definitely toast, just buy a used one off ebay or source one local, or try the classifieds threads for people parting out their 4runners. Good luck.

Cleaning the IAC is not a bad place to start if you are up to it. The FSM has a procedure to verify it is working once you have it cleaned up. It's not real easy as the throttle body has to come off. You'll need a new IAC to Throttle body rubber and a new throttle body to intake gasket.

Trying to clean to IAC on the truck with spray is not really effective. That gunk really doesn't like to come off. Best is q-tips and tooth brush and a cleaner like sea foam on the workbench.
