Worst possible choice - 23 yr old, 5Kmiles for $39,500!
As everyone on here knows, if miles don't get something, time will. I'd rather have a periodically driven vehicle than one that sits for extended periods of time, unless they drove it a mile a day? Now calm down, Sit back and Enjoy Your Runners!

You would have to be a fool to buy a 96 4R for almost 40k when you could buy a brand new one for about the same price.

And it doesn't even have a sunroof
Maybe the previous owner had a fleet of cars Incredible mileage but that asking price is pretty crazy. The seller should post it on Bring a Trailer, he might sell it for even more there LOL

Super clean but they lost me at the mention of a cap.
"...wires, cap, etc."

These trucks are in a weird space where they are almost niche quasi-classic cars now but last so long people still consider them beaters.

I don't think people are buying these mint trucks for daily drivers. It's probably a 40 year old who always wanted one in high school, and now has $40k in disposable cash to buy it.

There's just far too many of them for them to be considered quasi classics. There's a ton of them still roaming around in California and other southern areas where the frames didn't rust out.

That's still a terrible idea. Its not like you're buying a 97 TT Supra or something equivalent. Likewise there's nothing particularly unique to a 3rd gen 4runner that isn't found on a newer one.

Yeah but how many are mint kept? Most owners don't realize what they have and are oblivious to the fact there is a pretty big cult following of these vehicles. I don't think they will ever be as cool as FJ40s which go for $40k+ all day long, but in another 10 years when LBJs and milkshakes thin the herd it will be interesting to see what really nice ones are going for.

I would add that there are 40 year olds that have owned a 3rd Gen in the past and are wanting it back. I know it's a long way from being classic but 3rd Gen mint condition all original factory are going for top dollar. like close to the 15 to 20k
