Cool that it’s such a mint example. In my experience cars like these are typically owned by the owners of dealerships who buy a few cars personally and let them sit around. I know the owner of a local BMW dealer who has a 2002 Turbo with a few thousand miles on, an e34 M5 with a with thousand, a CSL with like 500 miles on it.

It’s super cool to see these things in person, but I prefer to drive cars then let them sit to an extent.

Interesting you mention that because I just posted a pic in the pics thread of a mint 1st gen the local dealership manager bought for himself (has a 3rd too). I love it when the dealer or shop are 4runner people. I only go to the dealer for parts, I go to an independent Toyota specialist for jobs I dont want to tackle, the owner drives a 4th gen and they appreciate the nice old ones that come in they post them up on their instagram.

Yeah they aren't an investment by any means. Maybe cryto-classic would be a better term than quasi-classic. Classic to some people. Or maybe just me haha.

I own a 5th gen too but prefer driving my 3rd gen. Prefer the looks of it too.

The new ones are better in every way than my 3rd gen. My wife Trd pro is in every category an improvement over the 3rd gen. Driving the Pro on long road trips you are very comfortable and rested vs the 3rd gen. Offroading in stock form with bigger offroad tires it outperforms my 3rd gen. I still love the 3rd gen and it is my project vehicle for sure.

Well it looks nice looks new. I would wonder if there could be some problems arise if it starts to be driven daily. The buy it now price is insane. even tho it is barely broken in I would not pay that kind of money for it. hey but that is just me. I will watch this just to see what the bid goes up to and if it sells.

Bid is up to 18K that's already way too much for what it is. People pay 10K over sticker for the TRD Pro through so there are almost definitely people stupid enough to over pay for this also.

If I had to choose, I think this one would be a MUCH better choice:

Completely restored to brand new: new interior, paint everywhere, everything in engine bay is new except for the block, looks amazing.

Sure......look closely at the frame pictures

As far as this particular one, it’ll be in a museum somewhere

I know I wouldn't pay 40k for that one. It's nice but not worth that kind of money. I dont see them being super classics as they get order.

These are not 1969 dodge chargers or 1955 Chevy convertibles.

I am curious what they consider a restored one as. I have seen great restore jobs and also very crappy ones in vehicles over the years.

Sorry, it's not a better choice. Sure, it has fancy new parts and a some what decent respray, but this truck for sure had rust on the frame. Take a look at the rear lower control arm brackets. Evidence of sanded away rust on them. They resprayed the frame with barbecue grill primer black. These guys are trying to pull off what Jonathan Ward at TLC rebuilds does, except they're on a tight budget. They need to stick at what they're good at, and that is being a car dealer.

Is it just me or does it look like there was rust on the frame that was painted over and is now bubbling?

No rust or prior rust. Just their lack of effort of cleaning the frame. If it had any amount of rust, the undercarriage bolts would have been rusty as well, and the aluminum transfer case and trans would have showed oxidation. As you can tell, they are in like-new finish.

This one's for sale in Vancouver. Pretty decent. Diesel and everything. Save a bundle and buy it instead. Use money saved and store it until it's ready to export to the USA.
These Japanese imports are usually rust free. Mine is spotless in, under and out.
