Dogs and Trucks

Hey my buddies and I were having a drunk conversation by the camp the other weekend and of course we couldn't agree on which 4wd rig was the best dog rig. I told them that my 4 runner was by far the best dog rig with its large cargo area and their own personal window that goes down upon request either from my GS or AB (American bulldog). It even has a quick james bond like escape option for running coyotes and bears away from camp that trespass on their camp. Of course many of them are now proud owners of the 4 dr Jeep. A few even went out and got a Labador to ride around with them in their Jeep in order to complete the gay commerical look. Nothing against a jeep because years ago in the 90s I used to have 2 dogs (before kids) and a jeep. Trust me it is a great combo but the 4 runner is the perfect dog 4 wd rig. Just open the hatch and they are up and in before it is fully opened and they have their own window.

my family had an 04 Tahoe several years ago with the barn doors on the back, so no windows in the back would open. With a great dane and an american mastiff, it was a slobberfest for whoever was in the back seat.

the T4R may be a little small for both of 'em at once, but for basically any other dogs, perfect.

I had a good laugh at this. During the slobber months (spring summer and fall lol) its a race to get out and get the gate up before she shakes the slobber all over the back of the truck. We seem to have about 10 seconds after engine shut down before she cuts loose lol. If we catch her before the shake clean up is MUCH easier.

haha we’d try to make my dogs lay down for the ride but after a few minutes they’d quietly stand back up and droop their heads directly over my little sisters in the back seat and just start silently dripping slobber on them until someone would notice and freak out

My Boxers love my Rig.
Once I roll down the back window they turn into Instagram celebrities with people constantly taking pics of them in traffic and asking for their IG handle.

In the Tail Wagger Wagon after a good 5 mile run out in the country. I walk maybe 2 miles but they run at least 5 usually.

Ready to go home for a drink and a nap.

Did you make the back window cage yourself? Great idea. Would like to do something similar so I could roll the window all the way down without worrying about them jumping out.

While we bought the 97 for the pups (GSD's).... nothing really beats a 60 or 80 series landcruiser with sliding side windows. Not quite as convenient as the electric back window but it's more room for all and better 4wd.

Got the idea from @cf_z_
he built his from scratch but i had a metal cage for the dog that we weren't using anymore and one side was the perfect size to trim down and weld in. Worked out great and the dogs love it.

thank you, its getting there, that link shouldve taken you to it but that works too

i also have sections for the side windows but have yet to decide if i really need them yet. They'd only go up halfway but i'd be able to roll the windows down all the way without anyone bailing
