I thought I had a brake booster issue, but did not. But in research saw that OEM went anyplace from $70 to 800 bucks. the 800 being Toyota not an aftermarket OEM. All seem to come with check valves . However when a Toyota check valve alone is 60, makes you wonder about quality of a complete brake booster with check valve only $70.

If your new booster is not Toyota...maybe its the booster being a new one but funky

Thanks! It's definitely OEM, just not sure if its new or refurbished. Paid 690 for it through my shop. I also went ahead and bought (and returned) a new check Valve and Grommet from the dealer, to eliminate that. Even though the new booster came with one.

I'm planning on disconnecting the ABS tonight, just as a measure of eliminating that as a possibility. But as stated earlier, the hard pedal occurs way before the ABS would ever kick in.

Bumping this up, to see if anyone can confirm vacuum readings on their intake plenum. I read just 17 in on mine, which seems low. Should be 20 I believe? Could this lead to a loss of vacuum (hard pedal) when I stomp on it?

Thanks!

I solved the panic stop issue.
Seems like my pads and rotors were glazed (I had less than 1 yo Stoptech drilled and slotted rotors and ceramic pads, which had been recommended to me. No clue on how the glazing happened. A new set of OEM pads and rotors gave me some good bite back on panic stops.

The other remaining issue I'm still grappling with is a hard pedal on cold starts, particularly when at high elevation. Booster and check valve are new OEM. System has been flushed. Calipers are working. Rear brakes are adjusted. ABS is working.

The only thing I'm seeing now is that my engine vacuum at the plenum nipple is only 11 in, at a cold morning at 10,000ft. This might not be enough to clear the booster of any air. I started a new thread about that ...

I wonder if you need to put a vaccuum assist pump on when your at high elevations. So your vaccuum is where it's supposed to be.
