Roof-rack Box.
I look at so many picture of Baskets on 3rd gen 4runners for offroading. I understand why people choose them but I more in the market for the Box. I was just curious of anyone has a box on their 4runner that can post a picture? And finally make me go grab one.

I am also in the market for a box and Yakima support told me the max load for our factory roof Cross rails is 100 lbs. So after you put a 40lb box up there you only have 60lbs left for gear. Could this be accurate?

Max load for the 3rd gen factory rail is around 160 I forget the exact number right now. It is printed right on top of the cross bars.

My '97 stock rack crossbars say '165 pounds'.
There was a thread on Expo where a number of posters that say they did a lot of 4WD-type driving on rough roads, and reported that the standard-type cargo boxes may eventually crack and fail from the vibration and flexing.

That’s a good point. It would be a used box just to check it out. I’m not ready to commit the $$ to a Sherpa rack.

in the summer I run a full length rack, winter a Yakima space booster ( for skis etc) without the full rack. Only issue I saw early on was if you mount it to the stock rack with the recommended spacing then you can not fully open your tailgate..as the space box sat too far back.
however, for me, I have extra length rails and an extra crossbar that I made up for my full length rack. regardless..
.that would be my question for a box on standard rails and one of the posts above looks like their box sits back and would interfere with the tailgate
