Antenna Hole Diameter

Does anyone know the diameter of the hole in the body that the radio antenna runs through? I don't ever use my radio, and I want to swap the antenna for a VHF antenna for SAR work. I didn't see this dimension anywhere on the taco whip mod threads.

Are you talking about the passenger firewall hole. Or the one in the passenger fender itself?

Sti-Co (aka Stico) and Antenna Specialists used to make direct replacement kits to convert the stock antenna location to a UHF (PL259/SO239) mount. May try eBay or an older radio shop as they haven’t been made in years.

I see if I can get you both diameters of the holes. As I just replaced rusted fenders and my parts mobile dosent have fenders. So I will pop the grommet and measure it. May take me a day or 2 but I post back

Olalal! Please post when you find. I've been wanting to switch out to a uhf antenna. I've converted my main antenna to a windshield antenna and it works better.

The fender hole is oblong so you need 2 dimension.

The fender in the firewall is small.

Long story short fender hole max 18mm

Firewall hole 14mm

Lol I misplaced my caliper and had to buy a new one for these photos. Antenna Hole Diameter

If you want a bigger hole in that firewall you could do that as its only 14mm. However, your fender is going to have to come off to drill it.

I figured you figured out the body hole was 14mm and the fender was oblong the larger measurement is top to bottom with the other measurement side to side

So there you go that's off a limited 1998 3rd gen 4 runner.
