Supercharger and URD 7th Injector Kit installation difficulty level?

Looking for a shop to install the Magnuson supercharger and URD 7th injector kit. Just so I know how much labor cost would be roughly - how many hours would it cost to install each?

Dude, do the job yourself and save a crapload of money. A shop is going to charge you an arm, a leg and probably your left nut to do this for you. You're in my area and shops charge high hourly rates. The Toyota dealer close to me, Stevens Creek Toyota, now charges $200/hour. It's not that hard. I can't necessarily speak for the 7th injector part but there's tons of information available for these superchargers that will assist you.

Here's a link to the supercharger thread with more information than you'll probably want to read. The 3.4L TRD Supercharger Thread

You could use the video @infamousRNR and I made for installing a supercharger and then use the forum thread to help you do the 7th injector install and get it tuned right.

I'm a slow mechanic but even I think this is a high estimate. Is this how long it took you or how many hours labor you paid a shop to install it for you?

Is the 7th injector install really complicated?

Nope. Hardest part is splicing in the piggyback computer. Total of 6 soldered splices, and 3 soldered "taps" (or tees). And that's at the worst end. URD's kit comes with killer instructions and now they offer a plug and play harness for some so there's no cutting factory harness up.

The actual physical injector install is stupid easy. 2 bolts, 2 hose clamps, couple of zip ties and a vacuum Tee.

Thanks Tim. Unfortunately, installing on my own wouldn't be possible. I live in an apartment with no garage.

Someone from the supercharger thread suggested this shop in Sacramento with an owner that used to install superchargers for Toyota. He just called me back with an estimate and said he can do the supercharger and the 7th injector kit in 6 hours for $700.

Roger that. That seems like a pretty high labor estimate. If the guy has experience installing a supercharger on these rigs, I would think max he'd charge around 4 hours labor. Will he be doing your valve cover gaskets or anything extra in that 6 hours?

You are dropping some crazy coin to gain 70hp and 40 lbs of torque. If you're getting a brand new Magnuson supercharger, plus the 7th injector, plus the labor, I'm guessing you're going to be into this mod for $4500 to $5000. I've dropped big coin on my 98 with suspension, bumpers, skids, winch, roof rack, etc, but I'd have a hard time dropping that much money for a supercharger. If I could get a swinging deal on a used one, maybe I'd join the supercharger club.

Glad he got back to you about the install! That's a fair price for everything including the 7th injector because of the before mentioned wiring with the URD unit. Not that it is overly hard, it's more that a shop could try and justify charging a premium on labor due to the ECU wiring component of the install. I wonder if he's done those as well, since there is such thing as a TRD 7th injector (was discontinued pretty quickly though) that was an add-on option from the dealership.

The shop he mentioned was a place I went to for the header install on my 4Runner since I don't have the tools or skills to weld. After he finished up the job he told me that he was the one who installed the supercharger on that vehicle 19 years prior when he was a tech at Toyota!

You have to also remember Tim that you're more adventurous than most when it comes to DIY work! You've done some jobs that even I won't touch. If a supercharger install and messing with the ECU wiring was my first go at engine work, I'd probably pass as well.

No one mentioned swapping out the fuel pump, which is a pain, or the spark plugs, which are easy but still takes time.

plug and play harness will save some time

My time estimate was for a do it yourselfer taking his time installing things in stages.

supercharger, fuel pump, and then rest of 7th injector kit.

Sorry for the bump/necro but apparently new accounts aren't allowed to start a thread.

I just wired up and installed my 7th injector kit and my truck wouldn't turn on. I checked the wiring 5 times and unless I have the wiring very wrong/reversed or something, or the PCU I have from the kit is dead or the wiring harness I bridged it into is bunk, I have no clue what I did wrong.

Anyone know what I can do to troubleshoot the PCU?
