Pricing a pristine 3rd gen
Specs:
1999 limited
150k miles
4x4 with locker
Zero rust, literally zero.
To put it plainly, I've never seen a 3rd gen in this condition. Maintained with records. Excellent condition.
I know what kbb and nada say but how do I put a price on this thing?

How bad do you want it? Check out the results on The best vintage and classic cars for sale online | Bring a Trailer to get an idea of how much these things can sell for. Some dealer in Vegas just sold a 1999 or 2000 in VG condition with 190ish thousand miles for $9600, and it wasn't a limited.

Have you confirmed the rust situation with your own eyes?
I've seen some pretty rough "pristine, no rust" cars over the years.

I would buy that at 8k (if the no rust thing is true).
go for it!

The truck is 4hrs from me. I've seen numerous pictures of the frame.

Seems like a solid deal but it still boggles my mind that people can get 7-10k for a 3rd gen 4runner.
People really should consider buying a 2wd 4runner and doing a 4wd swap. You can find 2wd 3rd gens down here for not terribly much.

alright, i think i can help! although i am on the west coast where we have an assload of clean-er cars (when speaking rust), so it will be close, but it wont be the same as KY.
in July of this year i bought a 1 owner 99 limited with a locker at 230k miles. it was at a used car dealer who bought it from the first owner (i still consider it one owner). i paid 6k out the door after taxes ( i beat them down a little and paid less than KBB, or whatever number they showed me). i think they wanted to get rid of it because they had no history info on such a high mileage car and the tires were absolutely toast (we were amazed they even sold me tires like that). i called a local toyota dealer and gave them the vin and they were able to confirm maintenance performed at the dealer starting 3 years after it was bought. there was also the appropriate timing belt sticker at 180k. applying the 90k timing belt interval service im assuming it was done at 90k and 180k. it was a gamble but i think it paid off.
i had to keep in mind while the bones of the car are good, things like bushings are junk. that is fine as i plan to replace all of them at one point in time (ive already done the entire front end). you can get lucky and find the right seller who prices things good and wants their old 4runner to go to a good home, but dont hold your breath. i would try to beat them down on price a little and see what you can do. i will always spend a little more money to get a cleaner car as its less headaches down the road.
