I see you are in New York I live in Stormville and just had mine fixed there is a guy in Hopewell Junction who fixes this stuff all day long.He remounted mine on the outside of the frame all is good and for less than 500.Name of his place is Ortiz welding .Mine broke when out 2hrs away in Penn.Had to drive home hoping it wouldn't push through the floor.Took him one day .

Don't waste your money on those parts not needed.Call this guy have him mount them on the outside from where they would normally be except on the outside. It's done all the time and works.NO need to junk the runner.

Thank you so much for the reply and info. That is the kind of guy I am looking for, but can't find anyone on long Island to do that work. Ortiz is about 2 hours away from me, so not sure if I can get it up there the way she is (shock has been removed). Will can them and see what they say. Thanks again

I am not able to do that. Sorry not very tech able. It is very easy he takes thick metal stock, then prefabs it almost in the shape of a upside down u then drills a whole and mounts the shock. I don't mean to make it seem that easy. I drove 2 hrs on rt 84 and back rds as long as youre spring is in place just take you're time .If the truck is not leaning it should not be a problem mine was sitting level I avoided pot holes best t could drove no faster then the speed limit. Search out Rip cords build look at the changes he made to put on shocks.he built up 2 runner did multpe changes over a few years.you will see mount position changes. I hope this helps .Ortiz is a pro welds all kinds of metal he can do this repair in his sleep.buy 2 new back shocks take them up with you when you drop it off.MYy runner is an 01 I love that truck he saved it,and can patch any other frame holes. WOW look at this short book.

Hey Joe, Thanks again. I'm not much of a tech guy either and have problems posting pics. Just a couple questions if you don't mind. I talked to Phillp Ortiz yesterday but he was super busy to answer. This is my wifes stock 4runner and is driven nearly 18k per year. Is this shock relocation safe? Will I be able to pass NYS inspection? Will this mod put undue stress on other parts of the rear end? Why on the outside of the frame and not the inside? And don't the inside rear tires get very close to the shock and mount now? Sorry, just have a lot of questions about this option. I appreciate all your help.

Shouldn't be a problem. There is no issue with back tire. You can have them on the inside if you want . I wanted mine on the outside so I can replace them when the time comes I take my runner to quick lube to get inspection not a problem.Did you look at 4rip cord he goes thru this extensively on 2 different builds. The runner has been repaired for 2 months not an issue.my truck is lifted the rear has Bilstein shocks that are longer then oem but it didn't hit wheel truck drives the same if you look at 4th gen .You will see them on the outside. Just a preference for me. Ortiz does mount them on the inside I asked for them on the outside. For me its about changing them my self. And if rust starts Or here this state when it starts I can get to it and see it .Check out 4ripcord build he has pictures of everything he did step by step this site is a God send use it to youre advantage. There is so much info and the people here are great. That is a lot of info on his build but it is worth it.

If you look at 4ripcords build he shows the truck in various flex conditions pushing rear to the max way more then I ever will then take it rock crawling yes it works and well he is how I got the idea to mount it that way. He wheels his in NEW MEXICO and its his daily driver. We will never stress our trucks like you'll see on his build page.

So many have helped me i hope you are happy with the fix in or out doesnot matter.Just glad to finnaly turn a favor back. Don't sweat it it's not a big deal.I wish i could send a pic but again 4ripcords build you will see the different kinds he did and his reasoning behind them. very well thought out. With this site you'll be doing a lot more than you imagined.I saved a lot of money over 18yrs of learning to fix repair and mod my runner .

Well Joe, I can't thank you enough man. You were right about everything. Ortiz took care of everything and my 4Runner was on the road again in 3.5 hours. They did an awesome job and treated me great as well. Great bunch of guys who know their craft and take pride in their work. The wife and I couldn't be happier. So, thank you again, it wouldn't have been fixed if it wasn't for your recommendation. Wishing you a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
