Swapping the diff button with the security thing.

Okay... So I heard that you can swap the diff lock button with the Toyota security panel thing so the diff lock button isn't behind the steering wheel.

I assume that I will have to unplug both of them to remove and swap them.

My only question before I try this is when I unplug the security thing... is it going to set off the alarm and start screaming at me? Should I wear hearing protection?

Really don't want to have it going off if I can avoid it.

Nope not at all just be careful putting it back together. One plug is just barely long enough.

Yes as long as the wiring will reach.

If your concerned of setting it off. Just pull the negative terminal before doing anything as that's best practice working on any of the electrical systems anyhow.

Yes you can do that and no it won’t set your alarm off. Getting the connectors off that security module is a fight though.

what is the 'security thing' and why would anyone want to swap the diff button with the 'security thing'? are people really pressing the diff button enough to warrant this? even tho you cant see it, i know right where its at.

i tried to search on google for this and all i got were swapping axle threads. im sure theres a thread on this already. can someone link it?

Well it doesn't make any sense to me to hide the button behind the wheel...haha. The security thing isn't a button so it makes more sense to put it in the inconvenient spot.

Definitely hearing protection. Cars alarms are the #1 cause of deafness.

can you post a picture to where you located it? i am still having a hard time understanding why anyone feels the need to move this. you cant see your pedals when you drive yet you still use them far more than your diff locker button.

are you pressing this button more than once or twice everytime you get in your car? why dont you just move it to the left where the empty slots are?

Mesooohoppy,

Can you not see the pic in the OP?

The "security thing" as its called is a panel fit into one of the switch pop-outs that has a small LED in its center to provide indication for the security system.
The guys are just swapping the RR Diff button to a different Pop-out. (the ones to the left as you put it)

They are just "Tuning" their rigs to their individual preferences.

The OP provided a photo of the "security thing" and the rear diff lock button in the first post. The "security thing" he's talking about is an indicator light that the factory theft/alarm system is active when blinking.
