Done

Done with the axle:

The OEM retainer went in without an effort: The TIMKEN retainer was TOO tight and it causes the tool and ABS ring the bend. After some work, got the ABS ring to straighten up.

Please take a look.... Did the grease and sharpie test.. What do you think?

The new space between the retainer and the polished end is 4 mm

The distance between the ABS ring (at the axle) and the polished end is 18.2 mm (Before and after)

It's hard to tell because the grease is opposite of what mine looked like. Take a look at post #12 here A possible solution to leaking axle seals. You have grease where it should be clean. You are putting the grease on the retainer and not the seal right, and only on the retainer surface where the seal rides?

I can't really see where the seal wiped away the sharpie mark and the delineation of where the seal pushed the grease back on the retainer is sort of hard to tell too. Try just doing the sharpie test and fully snug the axle into the housing with the 4 nuts and then turn the axles several times so we can get a clear visual of where the seal is riding on the retainer. I know from experience that 4mm of polished axle showing should be fine with the retainer flipped but it would be nice to have better confirmation before you bolt it back up.

Looks dead nuts on. Nice work. Did you use oem seals?

Dont they use Litium grease in the wheel bearings. Looks like you used mobil1 grease. Im not a fan of the mobil1 grease. It separates and dries out.

Yes Sir OEM all the way!

The grease is Valvoline

If someone is interested

Seal 90310-50006 ($5.50)
Bearing 90363-40020 ($53)
Retainer 42423-20010 ($9 each)
C-clip 90520-36045 ($1)
O-ring 90301-88077 ($2.50)
[Didn't install but the ABS ring is 43517-35010 $27]

I test drove the truck: The straighten up ABS ring is functional..

If an aftermarket retainer [especially TIMKEN (embossed)] is installed, before removing the ABS ring, grind the retainer. The OEM has nothing embossed.

The other side is good and no play in the oem bearing (214K miles): Should I replace that or leave it alone until it leaks? I don't want to experience a faulty bearing in the bad way.

Thanks guys!!

Good job! I bent my ABS ring slightly by not paying careful enough attention to the bearing splitter on the first side. I did better on the second side. It has not been any issue for me in a lot of miles since.
