What motor years fit what trucks? Mine is bad...

My head gasket is bad and I’m going to swap motors instead of replacing it...I have 212k on it

V6 5vzfe

I have a 1997 4runner 4wd

I found a motor with 60k on it from a 2004 Tacoma 2wd complete with harness and ecu.

Will that motor go in a 1997 plug and play? Do I have to swap harnesses?

Are there any differences?

Yea I have, I don’t want to do a head gasket job...I’d prefer just to swap with a low mile motor and be done with it. I have a supercharger also, and a low mile motor will like that more.

So just swapping throttle bodies and I should be good? Or could I swap ecu with complete harness? Or are there differences between 4wd and 2wd? The motor I’m considering is complete with all that

The block and the heads are all the same. So you should be fine just check valve lash while it's out of the car it's easier to take care of before it goes into the engine compartment. May want to consider WP and Timing belt.

^^^ spot-on. if you can find a low-mile engine, great. everything bolts on.

What motor years fit what trucks? Mine is bad...

Mine came with 2 5VZs and i fumbled through some of the differences in bolt ons while trying to put it back together.
You may need your original oil pan(and pickup i think), exhaust manifolds and as said already throttle body as there are variances in these per models.

Im not sure of the weird circumstance that caused this for me but the fan bracket, crank pulley and alternator pulley were different as well. Someone mentioned that 5VZ might have been out of a jdm van or something that required different accessories but i never found out for sure.
