Mud flap alternative

Guys,

Sorry to see that Toyota no longer makes the OEM mud guards. I took the running boards off over the weekend and ordered a set of Stubbs sliders yesterday.

I trimmed up the piece in the front of the running board and it looks decent. See photo for reference.

Has anyone come up with a good looking alternative to the OEM mud guards that are no longer available?

Anyone have a set laying around they're willing to part with? I'd likely be willing to pay slightly stupid money for them!

Thanks,

Ben

I thought about doing this when I got a set of sliders. I was lucky enough to get a set of the front guards two years ago. Beyond what you have done, I don't know that there are a whole lot of options. I know that BFAD used some plastidip to cover missing area when he test fit his flares on his 97.

I will be doing the same thing once I can find a set of stock SR5 Running boards or just the end caps

I did the same thing on one of mine. To be honest, I think it's the better alternative. My other one that had the factory mud flaps rubbed with my 285's.

Fireball, how did you cut yours? Much cleaner looking cut than mine was.

Just used a set of sharp heavy duty scissors and a utility knife with fresh blade. The cuts came out nice but I don't like the shape. It's better than nothing at all and about as good as it gets given what you've got to work with.

Here is a better photo of how I trimmed it.

As the brush was to Picasso, so is the utility knife to Fireball! ;)

I am still rocking my running boards for this specific reason. I was about to post a similar thread - I had hoped that someone had come up with a cheapie aftermarket generic mudflap that looked decent with SR5 flairs. Fireball, I think you did a good job making it looked 'finished' with the end cap of the running boards, but I think you will agree it isn't going to do a ton as far as keeping the gunk off the side of the cars (not a dis - there just isn't enough material with which to work).

Whoever comes up with a OEM looking front mud flap mod that offers protection gets naming rights!

No offense taken T-bone, like I said a few posts above, I think I made the best with what I had to work with, but it still does not look very good at all.

I went into the dealer the other day, and you could take the standard SR5 mudflap and make it work and look a little bit better. But for 90 bucks and the additional work and frustration of it still not being perfect, I think I'll pass.

I think he's talking about the flaps that came with the chrome fender trim.

Not my cup of tea, but here's an alternative and they are way overpriced.
