3rd Gen OEM Head Unit Upgrade Questions...

Yea, I searched... Yesterday and today.....But I cannot find a clear answer on the 3rd gen (most of its for the 4th gen).

I want to upgrade the OEM tape player in my 98 SR5. It is my wife's winter vehicle and she wants to be able to listen to her music via bluetooth (she has was use to it in her lexus and he 5th gen)

So like a tool, I went and bought a SCION head unit with BT Model T1819 and it turns out, it about a foot wide. It will not fit even with trimming the bezel because the faceplate is too close to the clips.

So then I went and bought the T1809, its the right size but no BT.....

so my question is....

Is there either a plug and play Scion/Toyota/Lexus head unit with BT that fits a 3rd gen or is ther ea way to add BT to the T1809?

I have a Pioneer AVIC-D3 that I took out of my Sequoia, But I really just want something Stock looking and simple. Or someone can just give me $4500 for my 3rd gen and I will go get her a vehicle she wants.

Pretty sure the Scion T1815 will work with minor mods. You can search around for it and get quite a bit of information.

Thanks man, I looked at that one, it doe snot have Bluetooth on it. I did find one that would work with a cable ran for the USB interface, but I cannot confirm if there is a cable that will work.

I had the T1809 and now have a T1819...

A small amount of trimming and spacing the headunit (using 1/2" nylon spacers) out will make it look nice and stock.

Is there a reason you want an oem radio? I got a Bluetooth deck and adapter thing for 180, you can do it cheaper if you don't get a real fancy deck like me.

Does that 1809 have an auxiliary input? You could connect a universal bluetooth adapter like this Rockford Fosgate RFBTAUX Universal Bluetooth® car adapter at Crutchfield.com

Its not like an LBJ dude. The OEM head unit is absolutely, without a doubt, completely inferior to even decent aftermarket systems.

The problem with 99% of aftermarket HU's is that they look like they were designed by highschool-aged Honda enthusiasts...

it does have a plug in the back to add a harness to give you USB. Im looking into it. So far the cost of the little harness is $80 and perhaps not worth it to me. good idea, thanks

I do not disagree at all, I just hate how flashy most head units are, and I'm half deaf so i dont really care how great the sound is.
