Throttle Adjustment preference

Whats up guys,

I recently adjusted the CC, gas pedal, and kickdown cable on the throttle body the other day. Wow! What a difference! I can't stay under the speed limit anymore. Here's my question...I must have over adjusted the transmission kickdown cable because the transmission is much more snappy and shifts much faster than it did (I had the "Toyota" smooth shifts before). Does this actually damage anything? Personally I did not like the ultra smooth shifting, all it does is where out my clutch plates sooner. I love the harder snappy shifts but I'm not sure If I'm damaging anything by leaving it this way.

Any thoughts?

I personally like to take all but just hair of slack in the cables. Gives you better throttle responce because the throttle plate opens sooner with less pedal.

Same here, I just wonder if I'm doing any harm to the transmission by having it shift faster and harder with the kickdown cable being over adjusted. I do not like the smooth shifting and prefer it to shift harder than stock.

I've always been told by tranny shops & other fast American car (muscle) guys tighter shifts are better on the tranny too.

For those of us that don't really know Exactly what you did, it would be cool to post a brief how to w/pics. Then keep us posted on the medium/long term results.

Update

Just wanted to send a quick update after adjusting the kickdown cable a few months ago. No problems thus far, I've got the trans shifting exactly how I want it... smooth when slowly accelerating, but a little more aggressive when getting on the throttle.

Bump for this post. When I look at the cables under the hood (there are three) all of them have some notable slack. I come from a world where slack cables are generally considered poorly adjusted cables and I'd be inclined to pull most of the slack out of these but I'm not sure if that'll mess up the actuation of something i.e. maybe they're supposed to be slack.

Any insight on which cables you adjusted/by how much?

Just until tight. You can leave 1-2mm of slack per the FSM but you don't want a sloppy cable. That will affect your transmission operation, your cruise control (if it even works) and give you a mushy throttle that may not fully open.

I actually prefer slightly overtightening the transmission kick-down cable until the little adjustment knob on the cable is about 2mm overtightened. Kicks the engine into the RPM ranges more where the engine makes the most torque.
