Finally got the 4runner all loaded down the other day and was very disappointed. I am an avid mountain biker and 100% of the time have a 45lb bike rack hanging off the hitch. I went camping with a few buddies and between the gear in the car, 3 guys and 3 bikes + a thule pod on the roof, I was less than a quarter inch off the 5.25 durobumps extended bump stops. Made for a fun ride on the dirt roads back there. The previous owner told me it had OME 890s in the back.

What would you guys recommend for this load? I want something with 3" of lift max (preferably 2") that can handle the rack (45lbs) + 2 bikes (30lbs each) with my camping gear. I will mostly be using it loaded on highway driving and some pretty light dirt roads. Ideally I wouldn't be crazy lifted unloaded either, as it is my daily and I would like to do real wheeling without the crazy load. I've got some sort of bilstein Looks like the 210v would fit the bill but might leave me with crazy rake without a load. Maybe LC wraps? What do you guys think? An impossible ask?

It’s doable. Did it in a friends: 33s open/locked some jerry cans and a hi-lift. Of course bumpers plates and sliders too. Started 7am on the south sat morning and off Sunday afternoon.

Haven’t seen anyone mention AC Delco. I just put in the 45H2131. They’re cheap and lifted my sagging rear end about 1.5”. Now the rear sits about .5” higher than the front, which I’m guessing have the stock ‘98 springs. Ride is good, the progressive rate probably helps that.

I still don’t understand.. I got some dobinson 210v coils this last summer and threw them in for a day. I sat at 5.5” of lift with a 4X innovations real bumper w/swing out and spare (Also 50lbs of daily tools/gear in the back). I feel like that’s on par or more than people with stock weight are getting. I double checked the box and it did say 210V but it just feels like I got some 220v coils lol

I don't do much off-road stuff, I use mine more as a "truck" for hauling. I don't need a lift, I just need it to be a comfortable ride with the capability of towing a fairly large trailer. I have considered installing airbags in the springs. What do you guys think of this?

Did you keep the inner bumps with the 210v's? I took mine out (mainly because I couldn't get it work with the spring compressors I rented, lol) and I'm sitting at 39" floor-to-fender with about 150-200 lbs. of extra weight between the cargo area and roof rack.

This thread was originally started for people looking for a lift spring that can support 200+ lbs of gear. Your ACDelco springs aren't going to come close to that. The ACDelco springs didn't even lift the rear of yours enough to bring it back to the factory amount of rake in the rear with the vehicle unloaded.

If you are satisfied with your current unloaded ride then airbags will be the best solution for your towing/hauling needs. If you can handle a stiffer unloaded ride then OME 906's would be a good choice.

No the inner bump stops left when I put the 891’s on a while back. My stance with 891’s is great until I load up and hit the trail with the family. The sag drives me nuts! Not sure if the lc 8 wraps would correctly fit the bill either. Or air bags I guess.

Interesting! I know it took about a week for my 210v's to settle down a bit. I'm at about 4.25" of lift now.

What's your rear hub to fender measurement?

I installed FJ Cruiser coils on my 3rd gen 4runner, primarily to fix saggy rear end.

I used the 3rd gen 5100's and added one 10mm OME trim packer to each side. It sits at 21.25 hub to fender on drivers side, and 21.75 passenger side. This is with 75-100 pounds of gear/tools in the cargo area. When the kids are with me it doesnt sag more. I believe the FJ Coils handle extra weight pretty well.

The ride is outstanding in terms of comfort. Sometimes I wish it was an inch or so higher, but I've had no issues and I run a 32" tire that looks great with the mild lift.

Haven't really wheeled with it, but travel on some hunting trails very comfortably, and with confidence. During install I was concerned about the coil seating, but there have been no issues. Just a larger diameter coil. The coil was about an inch shorter than the factory coil, and has a larger wire diameter as well.

I also replaced the front with FJ Coils set on second perch. If I would have set on bottom perch the rear would have more rake and I'd be happier. It sits perfectly level currently.

Hopefully this clarified the use of these coils for some people. If you are looking for a mild lift 1.5 to 2" or so, it's good to go. And the coils only cost me 100 bucks off craigslist.

on the front, do you think that would handle the extra weight of a plate bumper and winch adn not sag and still allow the 265/75/16 ( basically adding 150 pounds)

Currently with 891’s and 10MM trim packers I’m right at 23”. With the 210V it was 25.5”

I don't know to be honest. I have a cheap brush guard that the previous owner installed on there, and I added LED pods to it. Those don't weigh a lot, so not a great comparison.

I think the FJ coils handle weight better than 4runner coils though. I wouldn't rub if it was on the lowest perch, which I believe is an inch or so lower than where it sits now. So in theory, as long as your added weight doesn't sag the front more than an inch you would probably be ok, with the FJ coils on the second perch.
