The best option for your truck is the Dobinsons 137v. It is a triple rate spring and can handle the widest variety of load (170-240-320LBF/IN). Around town they are a bit firmer than stock, but paired with the right shock not overly jarring. When loaded with four adults, camping gear, rear cargo carrier with 200lbs on it they settled maybe .5in. Unloaded i netted ~2.25in of lift, and used a 10mm trim packer over both to make it an even 2in when fully loaded.

They will ride softer unloaded than the OME 906 [220lbf/n] and fully loaded take a lot more weight.

The one thing you can't do with these springs is run extended shocks...the coils literally fall out with the Tokico LC shocks in place. That is why I ended up going to the 210v.

Is anyone familiar with Dobinsons C59-131 and C59-297V? These are rear coil springs for the Prado 95 with 40mm lift. C59-131 is constant rate while C59-297V is variable rate. Unfortunately, I do not have info with regards the wire diameters, spring rates, and free heights of these coils.

My spring experience

OME906: provided a good lift for what I wanted initially. However the rate was way to rough for my liking. I wanted something as soft or close to stock, But this was way to much. Tried revalving my shocks to try and work with these springs but I just could not get the ride how I wanted.

LC8 wraps: Now these felt AMAZING, since they are about the same rate as stock just significantly larger. I loved the ride and flex, My only issue was how high it was riding in the rear. So it was the opposite experience as with the OME906. I debating cutting a coil off to bring it down , but I figured someone else would like the springs. So I sought out to find something a little shorter.

“GX springs”: Now I used a prototype spring that I got from work that was supposed to be a close copy to the GX470. Free height of 16.570” and a rate of 196lbs/in. These brought my ride height a little lower and gave a rougher ride. I used these the longest as I revalved my shocks to make these bearable to me. It was good but I still was not fully satisfied so I went to find more springs to try.

Jeep JL front springs: I went to offer up to find a cheap set of 2020 JL front springs. I found some for $30 so I took the opportunity to try it. So these fit up nice except I could not use the coil bump cone. So that kinda sucked, As for a lift, it brought my ride height significantly lower. A bit too low for me. But I drove around and I must say the ride quality was VERY nice. They are a 115lb rate. So that’s why it was so soft. HOWEVER I was hitting my bumpstops non stop. I can stiffen up my shocks so it wont compress as easily but whats the point of that. It would be perfect if it was a bit heavier. And as I stand I just have a drawer system in the back with not much in it. I do not think these coils will do well with a rear bumper as I will be making at some point. SO now I think I am going to circle back to the LC80 springs and try a 7.5 wrap.

FJ Rear Coils?

Semi new to this whole forum and my "new to me" 2001 SR5 Blue Pearl 3rd Gen. My rears are shot and am curious about using FJ Springs in the rear as an OEM replacement/ baby lift??? Any help is good help as I'm great with tools but not with cars, BUT WILLING TO LEARN!

You can find 5th gen 4runner springs for dirt cheap, found mine here or reddit, cant remember. The rears are very simple, but the top bolt is a challenge. I soaked my top bolts 4 times the day before and they came right out. You dont have to take the sway bar off either, or I didn't at least.

Curious cause I got a basically new pair from FL for free. Neighbor of my In laws had his fj lifted since new and had gotten rid of the rest of the suspension cept the Rear Coils so I said I'd take em. Possibly thinking of bilsteins but don't want to buy new rear coils if I don't have to.

Rears aren't complex, but getting to the top shock bolt can be challenging. Soak it for a while before starting, like a day or 2, with PB Blaster. Mine came right out. I didn't need to take anything other than the wheels off and used a pair if floor Jack's to droop one side while supporting the pumpkin.

I have had the C59-137V in for the last few years in a 99 surf. about 2.5-3" lift, good ride, but now towing the race car fully loaded up it's a bit bum down. Also have an aux tank in now too so may try some spacers first.

Shocks are by far the dominant factor with ride quality. Surprisingly the best ones I had in were the cheap Gabriel G63726 which are about .5" longer than stock. Now with ironman and not that great.

I previously posted in this thread about my experience with FJ coils on my 3rd gen.

They worked great, and I still believe they are a good option for people wanting a mild lift and better weight carrying capabilities.

I just replaced the rear coils with the Dobinsons c59-137v. Still using the 3rd gen specific bilstein 5100 shock.

Only driven around town once so far, but the ride feels softer and more flexy. The FJ coils felt stiffer. The rear is now 22 5/8" drivers side, and 22 7/8 passenger side center of hub to fender. So about 1.5 inches higher than the FJ coils had me.

I still have FJ coils in the front on the second perch from the bottom. And now I have the rake I desired. About an inch higher in the rear.

For those considering the FJ coils for their ride, I would suggest using bottom clip if running 5100 or similar adjustable struts. That should put you level and give you about a 1" lift over stock.

I was about level with the FJ coils on second perch, and FJ coils in the rear with a 10mm trim packer in each side. I wanted more rake though.

I will say if the Dobinsons don't settle too far, they are perfect for what I wanted. I was skeptical about any of the 3" offerings paired with the 5100 due to them being listed as a 0-2" capable shock. So Dobinsons with the 2" lift and progressive coils made perfect sense.

I use my truck as a daily, but also hit trails, take it hunting, take it fishing, etc. So these coils meet all my needs especially with the higher rate coils when I'm weighed down with hunting gear and an ice chest full of venison.

Well originally I had the springs alone but am now carrying more weight on a regular basis and towing a race car fully loaded and happened to do a prado rear disc conversion recently, and got the conical bump stops too. I had had some 15mm packers for a long time on the shelf but when I went to put them in just last month I realized that they were indeed only made to go inside the prado conical bump stop, and would not locate the bare spring (a la surf/4runner) properly by itself.

So now I have a bit of rake back again and it's sitting level when loaded. I have the EFS EEHD (extra extra HD) springs in front with no diff drop. TPR-101HHDE. 2.4" lift front, and now about 3-3.5" in rear with the conical bump stops and the 15mm packers.

I just have the conical bumpstops, no trim packers. Took it through the Texas Hill Country Overland Route today, river fording, mild trails, and some fishing spots.

It flexes very well, and is comfortable through the rough stuff.

I loaded down with wife, 3 kids, cooler, fishing gear, and about 150 pounds of miscellaneous EDC tools/gear, and it didnt sag enough to visually notice. Still had rake.

I'm extremely satisfied so far. But it has only been a couple of days, so.......

I'll update this thread if anything changes.

Has anyone used Dobinson c59-234 coils to lift the rear? Looking for 5” of lift and don’t want a harsh ride.
