4Runner 901's, cone bump stop, 5" Durabump, plastic spiral wrap on axle end of spring has 3.5"
between Durabump & Axle.
Runner facing house is unloaded 23.5" hub to flair, facing away backseats down has 880# of sacrete centered
with wheel wells slightly rearword. Didn't measure hub to flair, Durabump to axle was 2.5" to cone 4"+-.
Loaded in city traffic merges turns 4 mi no problem with handling. Stopping had to plan.
On the flex ramp S/B a limiting factor, didn't take time to disconnect, LC 5160's had travel left..can't say spring does or doesn't pop out.
So far I'm liking this setup.

My favorite rear combo was the Downey Off-Road 3" linear rate springs with OME 60027 shocks. I also ran the stock upper isolator with the cones removed and an OME 10mm trim packer per side. That combo rode super nice on road, dealt with the loads I subjected it to, including towing, and absorbed off-road bumps nicely. I was super-bummed when Downey shut its doors in 2009.

I'm reasonably happy with the LC 7.5/Black Tokico combo I currently have. But it annoys me that I need to keep weight in the back to have it ride at the height I want and with the ride quality I am looking for as well. If I could figure out a way to cut a wrap off the LC coils, I'd do it.

I've included a picture from 2004 with the aforementioned Downey/OME combo in the rear with SAW's in the front set to ~2" of lift. Stock wheels, 285/75/16 BFG ATs. My wife is mugging for the camera. ;)

Man, the glory days! Reading you talk about Downey Offroad and your photo with the OG BGF K0’s made me take a trip down memory lane.

Looks like a nice setup! And I totally agree - LC 7 wraps are great but you need some weight to sag em so your not rolling around on 4”+ of lift.

The SAW's required a rebuild at one point. I had already replaced the lower Heim joints once. Rather than spend more money on the SAW's, I bought the TRD/5100 setup. Huge improvement in on and off-road ride quality. It also flexed better in the front with the sway bar attached than the SAW setup did without. That's why I stopped disconnecting my end links. For the stuff I run, it's not necessary. I have enough dents in the truck, thank you very much.

Prior to the SAW's and Downey springs, I had NWOR progressive springs front and rear with Bilstein 4600's. The NWOR springs either sagged (front) or rusted out (rear). They also rode pretty terribly in the rear without a load. I ran the Downey's with the 4600's for a while. The OME 60027's were another big improvement in ride quality. Those shocks ride pretty good with linear rate springs and pretty crappy with progressive springs in my experience.

Where on earth do people buy new LC springs? There's so many options but not even Toyota bothers to set them apart. Do you order based on year?

There are several Genuine Toyota coil spring for the front of the LC80. different part numbers for number of wraps. So you'll need to determine the number of wraps so you can determine the part number. There was thread in here that had the part numbers and the corresponding number of wraps.

There are also aftermarket coil springs from OME and Dobinsons, among others.

You want the coils from a 95-98 FZJ80:

48131-6A570 Genuine Toyota Spring, Coil, Front

The color codes on the springs are Double Purple, Light Blue, White. These are the coils on my 4Runner.

I think I've started to find various part numbers, thanks. Currently using Dobinsons but I want less lift, I'm so damn tired of having rake

Do you have any weight in the rear? I got a rear bumper so I'm debating between 7.5 and 8 wraps to compensate, thinking I should shoot for the 19.25" or 19.5" 8 wraps instead

I have a hitch, stock bumper, 33" spare, 10" bandpass subwoofer, 100 lbs. of sand bags, tools, pump, etc. I'm sitting at 23.5" in the rear and 22.5" in the front. 1" of rake. The above mentioned weight in the rear dropped it 1/2". Besides the ride height reduction, I added the weight for ride quality as well. I'd say what I have would be equivalent to a rear bumper upgrade.

I have the Tokico Black LC shocks. You can get those from Toyota Parts Deal as well.

Alright, we'll see! Just put in an order. I figure if it sits a hair too low it's nothing trim packers can't fix, or worst case scenario sell them on the classifieds and get the next size up. I'm only carrying maybe 200lbs max altogether, so probably a tad more than you but not anything crazy like the 500+ some users carry

Cool!

If I put 40 liters of bottled water and 5 bags of groceries in the back, along with all the other stuff, it drops another 1/2". I believe the LC 7.5 wraps are 180lbs/in spring rate. I installed the stock upper coil isolator, with the center cone cut off, on the driver's side. My truck sits dead level from left to right in both the front and the rear.

If you loosen the mounting nut at the axle for the upper links and the frame side mounting nut for the lower links, while supporting the axle with a floor jack, you can lower the axle enough to easily install the springs. Disconnect the shocks from the axle and the sway bar end links of course. It's super easy if you do it that way. Remember to re-torque all the mounting hardware for the links at ride height!

This is how it sits at that weight on the trip. Tires are 235/85-16s. Front is probably a little low, it's just the stock 600lbs Icon springs at stock 3" lift (unloaded), but I have a bumper, winch, full skids, and dual batteries up front. Unfortunately I didn't take any measurements.

Thanks for posting this pic with 235/85s. Been looking for a good picture of them on a 4runner. How do they run on-road, off-road?

How are these LC 7.5 springs working out for you? I used to have the 210V springs on mine but switched to OME 890 springs because 210V was too high for the weight I had at the time. Now I have more weight but still not sure if the 210V springs will be too high. Maybe I just need to buy a few different springs and try them all out first haha.

I like them a lot, they settled perfectly and ride just the same if not a tad better than the 210v coils. Right now I have maybe half an inch of rake and it looks miles better than the 1.5-2in before. They're also much easier to compress and install/remove since the coil is slightly thinner, it was always a total pain to get the compressors in them and squish them down enough to pop them out
If you're one of the people who has a half inch lean in the rear then it would be smart to use one 8 wrap and one 7.5 wrap to even it out (about a 0.4 inch difference between the two), but for some reason I only have a 1/4 inch lean so I just use trim packers and it worked out perfectly
It would also be smart to get a close ballpark of how much weight you're carrying in the rear. I'm probably around 260lbs: my bumper is 150lbs, plus a 65lb spare tire/wheel, 25lb hi-lift and a small amount of tools and recovery equipment. Tbh I try not to think about all my extra weight and how much it's probably slowing me down lol but if I had to give an estimate for reference it's probably around there

I have the same weight on the rear right now plus a 100lb roof top tent. When I go camping I probably throw in around 200lbs of extra gear. Maybe the 210v would be good for me then.
