Cool to see that you are starting a build thread. I've been meaning to as well. I like the LC wheels good color choice with the black rig. We need to go wheel together or kick it. I'm in North Park

Thanks! The big trouble I see with offroading is the huge upfront costs. Don't really need the front bumper but I do feel sliders, skids, rear bumper are basically pre-reqs. Haven't really done that much offroading with it since I've been just working on getting it set up.

Well I found out I actually broke the outer cv joint in half on the passenger side. I don't think I was pushing it too hard for the most part so I'm surprised this was happened. I got stuck in some loose rocks / gravel and gave it some gas but managed to climb out of that stuff pretty quickly. All in all I am shocked / surprised at how weak the outer cv joints are. Perhaps my lift angle is a bit more severe than a few folks but this should all be a moot point now when I get my RCV axles in!

found out in addition to blowing my outer cv apart, I mashed the front differential up and broke some of the spider gears.

The ARB RD-90 takes care of the weak spider gears issue. Just sayin. lol

haha first thing that crossed my mine. Know anyone that keeps it in stock? (Yotamasters?)

I plan on taking the rig out to Moab on Thursday so I sort of need to patch this thing back up quickly. I'd love to re-gear if I'm throwing in an ARB but I'm not sure I have the time to do so.

Once the spider gears broke they damaged the ring and pinion as well. Overall I think the ring and pinion is salvageable for the time being but ideally they would be replaced.

You could call Yotamasters and ask Eric if he's got one. When I did mine I also regeared. I had ECGS build them and I just shipped back my core. They built them both with ARB's and Nitro 5.29's for just over $3000 after I returned my cores. Their 5 year warranty and costumer service really make them the best in the industry.

Do you have time to pull a front diff from the junkyard? If your hitting up Moab that's your quickest option to get back up and running. Doing trails with a compromised diff is asking for trouble, IMO.

I do have the time to pull a front diff from a junkyard. definitely can’t run this diff, I ended up pulling the clamshell apart and the spider gears are completely ruined.

The ring and pinion is probably salvageable, they got a bit mashed up but overall would probably be fine. I eventually want to swap in a v8 so regearing is an odd one for me but I do want a v8 with 35s.

I wanted to do a elocker up front from ecgs but I’m sort of at a dilemma.

went to Moab and whew what a trip!

I'll leave out some details since the video that'll come out will be pretty epic and I don't want to ruin it. But suffice to say I did try hell's gate and it ended up..... well you'll see!

I'll throw up some more photos at some point but for now here's a good one of the 4runner at the top of the world. Definitely nicked some of the paint off the wheels on some of the trails (to be expected) so I'll need to figure out a way to touch it up so it sort of blends.

At some point I'll lock the front, regear and go 35s.

In the short term I need to buy a welder and start gusseting things for added protection.
