Bad Sun Visors
Hey Everyone,
I purchased my first SUV last fall. A 2001 4Runner with lots of miles on it. I chose a 4Runner because of all the talk about the integrity of these vehicles, low maintenance, their capabilties, etc. And,, I needed a reliable 4 wheel drive to get up North safely in Michigan and hit the two tracks.
This is also my first foreign vehicle. Growing up in the Motor City, I always bought American. For lots of different reasons, I chose a foreign vehicle to see what all the hoopla was about,, and to just try one. I'll be joining in on these threads in the future to share information about my 4Runner and to tap all the fantastic knowledge that exists here. Kudos to all of you that share this knowledge,,, and so willingly I might add. I'm impressed.
I do have some issues already with my 4Runner though, and hope someone can help me. My particular model, the SR5, did not come with Sun Visors that extend over to the end of the window to block the sun. Although, I read that they were an option somewhere. This a a creature feature I felt the Japanese should have just standardized in these vehicles. I searched all the threads here to try and resolve this to no avail. I need to replace these Sun Visors with ones that have Sliders built in, or slide along the shaft that supports them. Has anyone here replaced theirs with the more functional style?

post a pic, if they're like my '97s you might be able to make your own. i have that problem too, so I glued some clips (like you use to close the potato chips bag) to a piece of dark tinted plastic. then, you can position the 'extenders' where you need them. since they're clear, they don't create a blind spot.

my dad just got his window replacedcuz it was broken and asked a guy working and he says he sees this alot... all it is is a car that has been spent most of its years in the sun or outside, that visor seems to just GO AWAY??? but yes that is what happens... its what happend to mine... but im really not frantic to spend alot of money for somethingto just be [put on..... you would prob have to replace the whole front window... $300 bucks to do.... i dont think its worth is... so just get ya some nice sunglasses for summer driving and dont worry about that sun visor

Sun Visors
Does anyone know if the limited had the better Sun Visors in this generation that would fit? I certainly have bandaid remedies for this, but I just thought it would be more classy to get Visors that do the job. Sounds like I might start perusing the junk yards too.
Appreciate everyone's input. Thanks

Limited Visors
I ran across this link:

Read #3
You can replace with Visors from a Limited if you can find at a Junkyard.

He is talking about the flip down sun visors attatched to the roof liner. And I believe that that is incorrect about the eyebrow tint on the top of the windshield (if thats what your talking about.) Factory tint does not just "go away" and it probably depends on the region that the 4Runner was offered for sale in. My 4Runner never had one on it and I can tell you that for sure.
To the OP, make sure you get the sun visors from a 2001 or newer to be on the safe side. I know that my 98 Limited does not have the visors you are looking for.

this what you are looking for...
I am looking for the same thing, except I want the lighted mirrors, homelink and the extensions.
It came out of the 2002 Limited, I am pretty sure 2001 also had them. Good luck finding one. This one was on Ebay and sold for $89 shipped. In retrospect, I should have kept bidding as I can't find another one, oh well.

Does the 2002 fit a 2001? Did you get just the one visor?
If you can find a 2001 Limited in a junkyard, with good Visors, it should have the lighted mirrors according to item #3 in the link I sent.
3. Interior
The Limited gets a new rich wood trim color. Extension visors that reduce the glare entering the vehicle from the sides and an illuminated vanity mirror are standard equipment on the Limited grade model and optional equipment on the SR5 grade model.
You would think that there would be some Limiteds in a junk yard somewhere in this country with visors.
I still can't beleive Toyota made a $30,000 vehicle and didn't make the upgrade visors standard for all the vehicles. And, a 2 bit digital compass didn't come with the SR5 to use when you're lost in the woods.

It will fit
I took mine off and compared the connecting part and it's identical. I bid up to $75 and stopped, did not want to pay $100 with shipping for a visor. Like you, I am hoping to fin one in a junk yard somewhere.
Good luck
