It’s funny how I threaten it with replacement and do a simple feature change and now (for now) it’s beeping........

Yes it is rs3000, I checked under driver seat and looked at model number on box before ordering remote. 4runner is from the mainland though. Looked around the hood latch earlier because it’s not chirping again today. Didn’t see anything. Checked the wiring from door to body didn’t see any broken wires. I’ll order a new piezo and see what happens

I took a minute to peek under the dash and try to see where the piezo wiring goes once it’s inside the firewall. Looked like it went high near the gauge cluster. Is it worth it to take dash apart and look for breaks in the wire up there or is it unlikely to have? T4r2014 do you know where it connects to up there? My factory service manual didn’t arrive yet

Update: For about the past week it has stopped cycling the locks when I turn it on in the morning, and the chirper was working about 50% of the time yesterday. This leads me to believe I have a short somewhere, anybody know where I should look first?

Side-note: this happened after a hike near Wenatchee in the middle of no-where!
My piezo has "never" worked. I say never because randomly last week it chirped a few times while lock/unlocking the truck, then stopped again.

Thanks for the Piezo info! Might just order a new one for giggles to see if it works again. It's nice knowing when it's locked since the alarm is armed and disarmed (locked/unlocked) by the same single button.

Did you order a new piezo? I just got my replacement in. Hope to have time to do it before the end of the week. Hopefully it fixes my problem.
The other morning when I unlocked it and opened a back passenger door it locked itself then alarm went off. The door light went off right before this happened. Checked door switch multiple times since then and it always seems to work. Sometimes when I have that door open I notice the light dims/flickers little bit. Will buy new door switch if new piezo doesn’t solve problem

5.0 out of 5 stars 1998 Toyota 4Runner SR5
Reviewed in the United States on December 23, 2018
Verified Purchase
This part fit my 1998 Toyota 4Runner SR5. It was used to replace my factory alarm system piezo chirp that was broken. Very easy to install! Just locate old alarm, cut off old part and spliced wires to connect this new part. Now the “beep beep” works again when I lock and unlock my 4Runner.

For the $7 I've yet to order one, dumb. Mine's filthy so when it stops raining here I need to take the time to remove it and clean it and THEN if it still doesn't do it: buy replacement.
I have other more pressing things: like putting the center console back in after swapping in a SCION head unit ☺

You boys have more patience than me. The first thing I do when I get a new to me 4runner is strip out the alarm system and seal up all the wires they tap in to.

RS3000 and Power Lock Problems?
The only thing I really like is the keyless entry feature. The alarm part? Ahh. If I have the dogs with which is a lot you can’t arm it or they make it go off.

Replaced piezo this morning. So far so good except for my horrible rush job on soldering. Will fix tomorrow morning when I have more time. Was wondering what the foam was for until I heard how loud the new one was without foam lol. Might leave it loud, we will see. Thanks again for the advice and for giving the location of piezo.

I think what is happening is the moisture in the air is completing a circuit. I saw some other guy on a thread somewhere on here had a similar problem, and one of the traces on the driver side door lock button board had corroded or burnt out or something, and he just soldiered a wire to where the trace started and ended to complete the circuit, and I'm wondering if it's either a short making it work 50/50 or if the morning dew moisture is somehow completing a corroded circuit or something.
Not sure, just an idea I had, but now I know my piezo works and doesn't need replacing.
