I'm doing a very similar build right now with a 99 5 speed, just a rig to haul the mountain bike around and to recover my fish house off the lake in the winter time, although in MN builds require rust repair before the fun stuff can start so i'm tackling that part first.

Do you still rub after putting the SPC arms at the G settting? I have 315/75/16 duratracs on order and plan on tubbing the firewall but it would be nice to avoid it...

tubbing is the way to go. I have a slight rub when backing down my driveway but that's about it. I've not had the wheels fully turned when off-road so no comment on if it rubs there. I'm a bit afraid of breaking a CV axle in that situation. Regardless, a little hammering was necessary even with the G setting. With 315's being slightly narrower than my 12.5" wide tires, I think you might be good.

Getting closer on the brake caliper brackets. Today I printed the template and traced it onto thin sheet metal first and cut that out to test fit. You can see how the caliper bracket is sitting 2mm higher in the front than in the rear hence the pads are not straight on the rotor. I'll adjust by changing the drilled holes for the caliper bracket in the real adapter plates.

You can see I have *just* enough scrap steel for the brackets. Otherwise I got one cut today, plasma is messy on the opposite end of the cut and you have to grind off all the slag which takes a while and is my least favorite part of plasma cutting. Hopefully tomorrow I can get everything mounted up and maybe have time to bleed the brakes, add gear oil after the new seals, and give it a drive. E-brake will be installed later for sure.

Finished the "real" brackets today and painted them. Unfortunately, I tried to adjust for the pads not being lined up and ended up having to drill out one of the caliper bolts a little extra to be able to thread the bolt in Hopefully not too big a deal as I see others have had to do this as well. We'll see how it holds up. I also didn't realize the calipers didn't come with banjo bolts so another trip to the parts store to get them and I think I'm all set now. Ran out of time to finish putting everything together today but hopefully I can finish and go for a test drive tomorrow. Then it's on to the e-brake setup, at least there, I was smarter and bought the kit from @midcoma ...

I got so excited putting it all together last night I forgot to take pics. But the brakes are done and it stops well enough

I'm going to drive it a bit to let the brakes settle in before bleeding again. The pedal isn't terrible but it's not great either. It's not diving in the front under breaking so I'd call that good (enough). Personally, I despise drum brakes and do not enjoy working on them, so to me, this is an improvement. I would not recommend doing this for any other reason than ease of future maintenance and only if you don't know how or like working on drum brakes. The drum brakes on our cars are plenty sufficient for the car.

Anyway, a few pics of the finished work and onto the e-brakes...

Got the extended breather done but I picked a different spot to extend the tube up into. Since I removed my spare in prep for the f150 gas tank anyway, I had plenty of space in the back and chose to push the tube up into the driver quarter panel, pushing through the factory gromit for the trailer wiring.

Also started the e-brake using the kit from midcoma. See last picture, what are others doing with thhe axle end?.I can't seem to get the block that pivots I'm the OEM cable off. Should I cut the cable up higher?

got everything finalized with the rear brakes, installed the uniden 520xl in place of the ash-tray, and went wheeling for a short bit this weekend. My son was manning the camera, so...

Really awesome meeting you!! I'm the guy with the black dog that approached you under the big tree at Hidden Falls. I'm still compiling videos and pictures from my first trip offroading so I can't wait to show friends and family a video of how it went. My brake setup is unfortunately working very well right now and I just learned to weld in order to make an axle tool to rebuild my rear axle seals and bearings. Sigh..... maybe mine will start leaking and I'll have a reason to convert to rear calipers Could I buy the schematic off you or would you recommend I just measure and cut/drill myself or would you even want to make a set and I'll buy them from you sometime? Also, is there a good write-up on the 76 Blazer master cylinder conversion? I deleted my ABS at the same time, added a proportioning valve and residual valve while reusing all of the oem lines. I wouldn't mind making a diy how to for people who want to increase the size of their master and don't want to pay almost $300 for the land cruiser MC while deleting abs and getting rid of the ABS.
Cheers! Looking at your truck in person blew my mind. I need to invest in a good lift ASAP!

Thanks for the kind words, good to meet you as well. For the brake backing plates, you can take the template I had earlier in the thread and print it out at 34% scaling and it should line up, just double check the caliper bracket mounting bolts distance between each other. I searched through @sleepydad 's build thread for the measurements and then re-drew using tinkercad. I don't really want to sell them as A. @midcoma has a kit which is very high quality and I don't want to take away from all the dev work he did, also liability, etc... Also, I think @midcoma has a blazer master cyl upgrade with TBU so you might look through his build thread or maybe add to it. Never a bad idea to do a write up in any case though.

As for the lift, I can't recommend the Sonoran Steel kit enough. It was great to chat with the owner there and get all the stuff working together well.

Looks good man, just a thought but you may want to take the hitch off or get a fabricated rear bumper. It’ll increase your approach angle and it won’t look out of place. Have a 99 5 speed myself that’s been lifted on 33’s...we got lucky with the manual

Thanks, it's in the works, I just need a few weeks to finish other projects and get back to work on the 4runner.

Well, I got a little crooked today and definitely broke something backing off this fun looking angle. It almost feels like a chipped ring gear tooth as the clunk is cyclical but I can still move under power forward and reverse. Nothing looks broken from the outside or underneath but the clunking makes me want to come back in the morning with a trailer. Anyone broke a tooth before and can describe what it sounds like or feels like?

Confirmed the damage today, 3 ring teeth and one pinion tooth sheered clean off. I'm looking at upgrades, looks like Toyota has a 4.56 ratio with e-locker possible. Has anyone been able to locate a 4.56 axle or even just the differential? I'd get the front to match as well of course. Unfortunately all the salvage yards near me have the diffs already taken out of all 4runners and tacos or they were 3.9 ratio rather than the 4.1 to match my front.
