Looking at websites showing the OEM bumper assembly they are showing appx weights of the inner assembly being around 20lbs pounds and the bumper and plastic weighing roughly 36lbs for a total weight of appx 56lbs, 4X shows their front bumper at appx 100lbs for a appx weight difference of 44lbs.

Is a front suspension upgrade really required for an additional 44 lbs?

Now if I could find 3-4 Minneapolis based buyers willing to spring $50 for delivery of bumpers I could afford the $55 grill guard upgrade
Who wants to make a run out to the West Coast? Until then, I'll keep trolling the junkyards......a lot of good mods turn up in the pick-n-pull yards out here...

it weighs 100 lbs, what do you expect? you may even be in freight territory at this point in time.

that is also why you see weld together kits. theyre cheaper to produce the end product and shipping is much cheaper.

man, at that price, i really want to like that 4x bumper. i absolutely hate how they flush mounted the turn signals and then cut a circle for the light and that other hex circle thing. that looks so cheesy and unrefined next to the flush mount turn signals.

There are reasons. Those pop-in turn signals are cheap. Fog lights and off road lights are expensive - so they get recessed. The extra hole is for air to the radiator and access to a winch clutch handle.

okay this all makes sense except for your foglight comment. just because theyre expensive doesnt dictate how you mount them. can you further elaborate?

do you get more options for foglights when you recess stuff like this? the winch cluch thing makes sense, but how come i dont see these big ass recessed holes on other bumpers? an example would be coastal. their fog lights are flush and they have no additional holes for that clutch handle you mention...?

You mount expensive things recessed so that they don't get trail damage. Even the coastal bumper square openings for fog lights recesses them a bit, look again.

The Coastal bumper is open top, and you access the winch handle from above. It requires that you cut out some of the grill to mount a winch, and leaves the winch exposed (can be good or bad, depending on what's important to you).

well if you really think, that a TJM is "one of the strongest I've seen on a bolt on bumper" you need to get out and check out some real fab shops. Ive personally seen a TJM fold, causing damage to the bumper itself, trashed the headlight signal, and the fender on the pass side. He wanted to "save" money so he bought a used TJM, then it cost him so much more to get everything fixed,, they are NOT even close, to the strongest bumper" I personally wouldnt trust him to push a grocery cart out of the way.

I have seen the same flush mount turn signals used on other front bumper offerings like Coastal Offroad.

WTF is just based off the fact that it would cost appx $75 in fuel to make the 500+ mile round trip in my 4runner and half that if I used the car.

$606 for the 4X is tempting the out the door price especially if adding the $55 grill guard makes me go hmmmm!

About the only item left on my should/need do list is a new radiator.

Fair enough. I was specifically talking about the winch plate that bolts to the frame, but I have to agree that the actual bumper part that bolts to the winch frame doesnt feel quite strong. I'm very happy with my bumper and at the end of the day that's all that matters. I also remember a post somewhere about a 4xinnovations bumper that was involved in a rear end accident that folded and caused alot of damage to the vehicle it was mounted to.

Thank you for elaborating and sharing first hand experience

If you're just getting into off-roading, I would save your money. The only real case I could see for a plate bumper would be a winch mount.

You'll be surprised just how useless a plate bumper is on- and off-road.

not a problem, we are all here to learn. I could have gone about it better, but being on meds its been a bad week.
We are good

You also need to consider what your time is worth? You'll have to pick this up during the week unless you can arrange a special pickup on the weekend. If it's during the week are you going to have to take off work? Is wasting 8-16 hour of PTO really worth the drive to save $100?

Personally, I'd pay the shipping, and have someone deliver it to my door. I like saying my PTO days for real adventures. Not driving 500+ miles to pick up a bumper. Either way, you'll be happy with a 4x bumper! It's a great bumper for the price, and you can't pass up $606.
