I didn't, actually. But I carried them off together to stash them and I believe i carried them under 1 arm (I'm a skinny mountain biker) so they aren't very heavy. Held on by 8 nuts and bolts each each side I believe. I also removed the last section of the rear wheel cladding but I might put those back on. Those were 3 bolts each.

Not so skinny here Fat Biking during MN winter.

Anyhow I just unbolted my running boards and carried them into the house one in each hand for weighing just for shits and grins, Combined weight of boards, bolts, hanging brkts 28 lbs.
Granted the weight was suspended between the front and rear axles so I am going to figure 14lb reduction on front axle and another 14lb reduction on the rear.

Going to try going boardless for awhile and then decide come spring whether to mount the boards again or chuck them in the trash, Right now I am liking the boardless look and the weight reduction is a bonus.

Once you go boardless, you never go....well, then you can install sliders.

For an off road look, and some offroading, consider trimming off some of the corners of the OEM bumper. I have hit my bumper a lot, on many things, but at low 4wheeling speeds. Yeah it's pretty bent up, but non of that damage translated to the rest of the vehicle, the lights, fenders, and everything else are still fine. Since the rest of the front end body is still fine, once I replace it with a steel bumper, you won't be able to tell I crunched the oem up so often.

Since I cut the corners off, i hit the bumper far less, the main part I hit is the part right in front of the tire.

Spend the bumper money on sliders, far more important then a front bumper. You crunch up the bumper, you can get a new one (and you want one eventually anyway) If you dent your rocker panel into your door it's a much bigger deal. Sliders are a great "off road look" item too. Especially if you get a kick-out, and angle them up.

Cliffs- always sliders first, before bumpers. Try the oem bumper trim.

I sure I'm doing more exciting things when I'm retired than couriering bumpers to and fro.
Going to pick up my bumper next Monday on my way back from Missouri dirt biking, The money I saved on shipping will almost cover gas money for the rest of the trip.

Enjoy your retirement.

So, what bumpers have good ratings for on-road/possible-crash?

I think the only bumper that's actually rated for vehicle collision is the ARB. They have built in crush cans if I remember correctly.
