Injectors Interchangable: 4-Hole & 2-Hole?

Injectors Interchangable: 4-Hole & 2-Hole?

I heard the 96-98 4Runners have silver/green injectors with 4 spray holes, and the 99+ 4Runners have orange injectors with 2 spray holes.

fuel injector replacement

Some say 4-hole injectors should not be used to replace 2-hole injectors because the control board might not work right with them.

I have access to a set of 4-hole injectors in good condition from a 98 donor vehicle that I want to put into a 2001 vehicle.

Anyone tried this?

They work, but not as good as you think they might be. The spray pattern is very linear and shoots streams of fuel rather than a spray. Injectors with a spray pattern will yield better results than switching from one stream pattern to another.

I replaced the 2 hole injectors in my '91 with a spray patterned 8 hole injector and gained MPG's and power. I've yet to see any plug and play with the right cc's for our engines though.

Thanks for the reply and the info about stream versus mist.

Wasn't thinking that 4-hole was better than 2-hole and that switching from 2-hole to 4-hole would give a performance improvement.

The 4-hole are in good shape and and at least one of the 2-hole are bad.

Just want to get the car running good. Don't want mismatched injectors or injectors that won't work.

Sounds like the 4-hole injectors will work as a replacement for the 2-hole then?
