What is this and where did it come from

Doing the timing belt water pump thing on an 02 that I bought a week ago.. I've done the job on others before but never seen this..

My guess is that looks like a small leak/corrosion of factory coolant substance (glycol based I think?)

Yes antifreeze leak. What does it look like around the water pump. Is that your source or is it higher?

Looks as though there was some type of leak coming from high, possibly the radiator hose and dribbled down, accumulated and hardened. Does look creepy though.

I agree that is was the coolant but didn't realize it would accumulate like that. I did the complete waterpump/timing belt and related components after getting everything spic and span.

I found this cream puff with only 114k on it.
