Any advances in horn technology for 3rd Gens?

I read a few threads wherein the 'clown horn' has been replaced. Is there any new thinking about replacing the 'Meep' horn with something in the key of F like a real truck. Is FIAMM still a good option?

If I was driving a 1969 Roadrunner 440 6-pack I wouldn't have a problem with the bird sound.....but that's a different breed of runner.

Thanks!

I used the dual hi/low trumpets from a Range Rover. Nice aggressive honk.

I've still got the meep but i've read on here about some using the 4 horn cadillac, others a more train like blaster.

I replaced mine with these Hella horns I got off Amazon : https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 They're plug and play. Much more on par with current vehicle horns in volume and tone.

I replaced mine with a couple of Ford f series truck horns from a junk yard. Easy enough swap, cheap and proper truck sound.

Over the weekend I installed a WOLO Bad Boy air horn from Harbor Freight that has been sitting on the shelf new in box for years, Ouch just looked and they jumped in price $37 think I used to pay like $20 minus their 20% off coupon.

At one time I was installing these on various motorcycles and this one I had bought to be installed on a Honda Goldwing but found Honda put a proper horn on the Goldwing.

Next attempt was my Promaster van but the horn is located somewhere up under the fender well and danged if I can find it without removing the fender liner NOT!

So the Toyrunner it is.

If you got to a PnP style junkyard, look for an older (square) full sized Buick or Cadillac. They both have the 4 horn sets. The Chevy's and Oldsmobiles only have 2.

The late model 3rd gens also have a pair of deeper sounding horns. I have a pair of them I picked up a couple of weekends ago, but haven't put them on yet. They were on a 2002.

My wife has the 4-horn orchestra on her '96. It sounds quite nice.

harbor frieight sells a twin horn kit that is over 100 decibels. two horns, brackets and misc for under $12. I installed them on my 4 runner a few years back. Not big truck sound, but better than stock 3rd gen sound and volume. Painted mine black ( they are chrome) . I don't use mine often, so cant speak about life span if you use them a lot ( city folks, etc)

definitely go with the 4 caddy horns, cheaper than most options, takes one wire per horn and they can be bolted right in.

here's my install
