When do you know when we are Running out of Gen 3eeeeeeeeees....

I think when people start looking for 2.7 to put 3.4's in them we know for sure that we are running out of 3rd Gens.

I'll be really disappointed if people are swapping 3.4s into a 3rd gen. Go V8 or go home.

Looking at the San Diego Craigslist makes it seem like that day is quite a ways out yet.

I love the S Series Saturns as beater cars. I worry the day I need another and I can’t find a decent one and am required to figure out what to replace it with. It gets me 40mpg in the winter and 44 or more in the summer.

You never hear the 3RZ guys bemoaning lack of power. You only ever hear 5VZ guys saying "I'm just glad my truck isn't THAT slow!"

So if that makes you feel better, you're welcome

All I ever say is how much of a dog the 5vz-fe is. If I had a garage and the space I'd be prepping my 2uz-fe swap. I'm sure the vehicle drives fine at sea level but in the mountains ... yikes.

So my last daily driver was a 383hp LX570 and I don't really miss the power at all. I go from 0-30, 0-40, 0-15mph to work and back every day in this dang traffic in Atlanta. Having owned a 1985 4runner 22r-e with 33's and an automatic will give you a lot of perspective though!

I'll take take the reliability of the 5vz-fe over the 1GR-FE 4.0 I did a head gasket job on my daughters 2004 what a pain in the Bu##. For me it was not worth difference in HP. Do I wish that the 2UZ FE was an easy swap hell yea but I can see a point in the near future where people will be buying up the 3rd gen with a 4 cylinder and doing the easy swap of a 3.4.

The 3RZ is a great motor... If it is paired with the W59. It doesn't match well with the auto transmission even in the lighter tacomas. The 3RZ likes to rev and the auto transmission likes to bog, poor match. What will happen in the future is the easy 4runners will get sucked up and what will be left is the high milage/ frame/ engine/transmission problems. There will be plenty of parts for those for quite a while

I have never wished for the v6. Every time I do some work under the hood I say "man, I love this engine!" I'll give you a race swapping valve cover gaskets!
