To cut front fenders or not?

Yo!

I am dealing with some bad fender rubbing on both sides in the front of my 99.

I just put on some pro comp 69 rims which are 16x8 and I run 265/75/16 wildpeaks.

I put some photos up to show the rubbing.

What should I do?

Suspension is stock. Trying to keep it that way.

Can I take it to a body shop and have them cut the fender a bit?

Need a recommendation ASAP! Thank you.

Smaller tires ...;) Fender flares arent cheap to replace. Probably going to have to lift it to get those to fit. I would advise against cutting fenders etc. I not a fan of spacers neither. However, we see what others think and say.

you say suspension is stock...does that also mean old and warn out.
Could it be the new rims with the wrong offset ?
I run 265x75x16 on stock rims and have no rubbing. I run KO2's in summer and a different tire for the winter (KO2 suck on ice). Same fender flares as yours
when I got my 4runner , it had 265x75x16s on it, and it had a stock suspension and I had no issues. I now run the 99 toyota tall springs...which does give a bit more clearance, but like I said..I had no isseus when stock
maybe Ive just been lucky...I do hit back roads in summer, but nothing radical and I hit known low spots or bumps slowly

I know you said you want to keep the suspension stock, but you'd only need to add some 5100s to the front to avoid the rubbing - no need to swap the springs. The ride is close to stock, maybe a little bit stiffer (so I hear). Only problem (besides the cost and install job) is that, depending on how your truck sits, you might end up level or even at a negative rake.

Good call thanks for pointing that out.

Offset is -12 with a 4 backspacing.These rims: https://www.4wheelparts.com/p/pro-co...BKBQ-7069-6873

Yeah stock suspension with 225k. Probably worn out. I’ve been eyeing just some tundra 5100s and medium duty ome since I don’t want any large lift but not sure that would even help with this rubbing. Obviously want to hear if that’s not the case.

Just got these tires so would rather not have to get another set

Your fender flare is hangijg off at the bottom making it closer to the tire. If it was attached I have my doubts it would rub at all.

Under fire has a valid point did that fender flare come loose from rubbing or it never was attached properly?

Fender flare came loose from rubbing with the new wheels.

Never had this problem before with the 265/75/16 on stock wheels. They were 7 wide these are 8 with different offset and backspacing so it makes sense

Would putting in tundra 5100s maybe help fix the issue?

Would fender rolling or some bodyshop magic (no idea what) work?

Just trying to find the best option, if there is one besides new rims or new tires.

I have the exact same tire/wheel combo. As you know, these wheels are over an inch further out than stock (-12 offset vs OEM +15), and that creates a larger sweep for the tire, and rubbing against the flares.

All the suggestions above about lifting miss the point that lifting is not really a cure, it's a band aid to avoid rubbing at static conditions, but it won't change suspension travel and it'll still rub under full suspension travel.

It's odd that yours rubs on the rear of the flares, mine rubbed in the front, and only on the passenger side:

For now I just took the bumper flare off, and plan to hit it with a heat gun to deform it slightly.

On our recent offroading trip, where we saw some full articulation, I noticed rubbing against the inside of the wheelwell, at the pinch weld area. Again, I fully expected this when getting the wheels, and am considering the pinch weld mod.

You can always go back to wheels without the negative offset, that'll fix the problem. I specifically wanted the offset to push the tire further out towards the flare, so I'm willing to do the work to eliminate the rubbing.

Hmmm, weird. Wonder if that is due to the weight of my arb bumper with winch. I will be pulling off the dead winch.

This makes me now think I have front sag and new shocks might be a good test. I planned on putting on some 5100s either way.

Also, I do not expect full suspension travel, tbh. I don’t wheel much but I do get on forest roads for hunting and fishing trips.

The passenger side is the side for me As well.

Put in tundra 5100s both front and rear.

Front is on the third setting with stock 99s talls

Rear is stock springs with tundra 5100

I pulled the winch out of the front because it was jank and I still have my arb bumper on.

No more rubbing after I had a good body shop help me out with the fender.

New measurements are below

Front

Ground to bottom of fender - 35”
With 5100 on 3rd setting - 36.5

Rear

Ground to bottom of fender - 36”
With tundra 5100 - 36”

Looking into rear springs eventually as I’ll be building a sleeping platform but for now this works and solved my rubbing issues.
