Angry once again - VSC Trac/off light - and check engine

hello everyone. I have a 2002 4runner at 79kMi. Love this car, but these dam lights came on - "VSC Trac/off light - and check engine".

Now i have been reading the other threads on this site, saying how you can be topping off the gas, or the cannister needs to be changed, or other things. my mechanic/good freind, says the computer read that its my AC or the gas tank pressure that could have set it off. The 1st time it went off was during heavy rain. My car's computer has since been resetted, but i wont be surprised if goes off again.

My main question is this, do these lights by any way mean something is malfunctioning. Is my VSC working properly? Thats really all whats troubling. Could it be just a bad sensor? Ive scene brand new cars right out of the show room have check engine lights go off, from subuar to mercedez. Is it even worth me digging deeper?

I do notice my ac is a little week, so i do have to check that out. I just dont want to start replacing a million things, and have this sensor keep going off periodically.

your thoughts and opinions are much appreciated.

thanks.

more than likely an oxygen sensor that's pooched....I have a 4th gen and there's 4 of them...not too sure about the 3rd gen's but have it checked and see which one it is.....good luck.

Pull the code. I'd bet money on it being P1135 HO2S Bank 1 Sensor 1 Heater Circuit Low Input.

This typically means you need to replace an O2 sensor.

However, if your vehicle is california emissions certified, you will need an A/F sensor, as the two are different, but perform the same function.

Once this sensor is replaced, and your computer reset, your VTRAC lights should go off as well.

Replacing this sensor is fairly easy, and can be completed in less than an hour in your driveway.

all three of thses lights came on today on my way to work.. So i took it to Autozone and had it scanned it the code P1135 showed up so i guess i need to replace this.. but i was wondering what does the fuel sensor heater have anythign to do with the VSC??

is there a thread on how to replace this?

also i had my oil changed at natinal tire and battery and had them check my muffler because its gotten loud latley and i read that this sensor is located on the exhauset and wonder if they broke it or somthing..

What everyone needs to know is that anytime your check eng lite comes on, so does the vsc and trac. Nothing is wrong with those systems. The ecu disables those systems automatically when there is a code in the computer. No need to worry. When you get your code pulled, do or have someone do a little diag work before throwing parts at it. A little diag can save you tons of time and money
