Once in a while. You will notice Toyotas part number will change. They do this for several reasons. The part goes thru a revision upgrade. Price changes at times will on occasion change numbers.
Lots of times my local dealer will go through 3 to even 4 supercededs set of numbers before you get the current good part number.
I always suggest everyone verify part numbers before ordering. This is one of the reasons why the dealers ask for VINs to verify parts. Granted this is if your components match their build sheet. Naturally if engine, transmissions, axle housing are from different rigs. Always keep that donor VIN handy as Toyota can and will change things on the assembly lines.
The transmissions did have changes over 1996 through 2002. The valve body is an excellent example of a change. Now did the filter change any from 1996 through 2002. I honestly dont know. As a guess they be extremely close.
I just figured I would add this to this thread for other users in case they are unaware of this.
