Door Seals - What are the options?

The weather stripping in my drivers door is coming apart and I believe its causing the drivers door to rattle when I go over bumps.

I looked up an OEM replacement online and saw it priced at $100 per door, so I'm wondering how other people have replaced these before? Can I use weather stripping from a hardware store and just put different lengths around the perimeter of the door?

ok I kind of feel dumb, I just found some universal options for a fraction of that price.

That's a good point actually, is lower quality weather stripping a problem? Assuming the rubber that's in these doors now is 20 years old I'd say maybe.

I think anything would be an improvement to obviously shot 15+ YO weatherstripping, as long as it fits well. Even if you don't get another 15+ years out of it, it's probably a good deal.

It depends, OEM has kept deep mud & water out of my cabin when off road. Not sure how the cheap stuff will do.

Also interested if anyone has sucessfully bought something aftermarket. Rockauto actually has a wide variety of sizes and sold by the foot.

You could weld the doors shut and hop in through the window, Dukes of Hazard style.

I don't really plan on taking my tuck swimming...But then again you never know where I'll end up someday.

Good find!

FYI, since most vehicles you'll find in the JY will all have the same problem (worn-out Dr-Side weatherstripping) a piece from the Fr Pass-side - which often times is in much better condition - will fit the Dr-side almost perfectly. I did that on my son's truck, and there was one place in the top corner where the WS kinked a teeny bit. 99.9% perfect fit though.

IF anyone here has had their drivers side weather seal tear from your feet rubbing on it as you hop into your rig over the years I have one I'll sell...

HERE is an example of the torn worn out seal. The one I have is NOT torn...
