Spark Plugs Wires and Coil Information for the 5VZ-FE

Make sure your Alternator, Battery Terminals
Are Clean That your engine grounds are clean and not oxidize.
Voltage is correct and battery is good

If anyone has the 4 cylinder information we can add it to this post so that its contains both the 5VZ-FE and 3RZ-FE.

Source: The forum and the FSM

Only a Few types of spark plug wires are recommended

1.) NGK TE-66
2.) Denso 671-6182
3.) Sumitomos P/N: Sumitomo 5z-16 x-e Toyota P/N: 19037-62010
4.) Mag Core Wire sets

[Sumitomos Wire Info]
Amazon link for the Sumitomo wires
Amazon.com: Genuine Toyota 19037-62010 Spark Plug Cord Set: Automotive

[Info on Mag Core Wire]
Mag core wires are less than 1K ohm per foot.
They are steel core wires instead of carbon core and you can get them in 7mm or 8mm cables.
I’ve never had issues with the 7mm wire sets.

{They measure 1.5k ohm, 1.6k ohm and 1.8k ohm. CarQuest set Part Number 35-6050 WIR}

Wire numbers with NGK resistance values of new wires
1 goes to Cylinder 4 shortest wire 7.61K ohms {NGK}
3 goes to Cylinder 6 Longest wire 9.76K ohms {NGK}
5 goes to Cylinder 2 middle length wire 8.07K ohms{NGK}

You notice that all wires are 10K ohms or less

The maximum resistance of any spark plug wire is less than or equal to 25K Ohms.[FSM IG-2]

Actually only 1 coil is recommended for these are the same

Coil part number (OEM MFG of the coils and cheaper)
Denso 673-1201

Toyota Part number
90919-02212

Coil-on Plug Boot
{Recommend when changing the plug wires}
Denso 671-6248 Coil-on Plug Boot

I’ve been using Mag Core wire sets for years. They get more voltage to the plugs.

Folks can use as they wish. What's the resistance Mag core wires? As long as they are under 25k ohms they meet the specs. Lots of A/M wires dont last long and like everything else there are exceptions to A/M parts.

I am sure there are wires with lower resistance then NGK or denso However as long as they are not arching when they are damp or the insulation breaking down they should work.

Recommendations are exactly that as people have had excellent success with the Denso and NGK wire sets.

Why not the OEM factory Sumitomos? We original owners have a lot of experience on those...

P/N: Sumitomo 5z-16 x-e

Toyota P/N: 19037-62010

https://www.amazon.com/Genuine-Toyot.../dp/B00G52H7YE

Also carried by many dealers last I heard.

Although the above listing does not explicitly state Sumitomo, several reviews refer to the year printed on the wire insulation--which only the Sumis have.

Are they even available anymore? I know the Sumitomos were the originals. What's there resistance?

If we had several different types with their new resistance values. Then the users can decide themselves which is best for them.

I can add a table of wires resistance for the 3 wires.

I dont have the denso resistance listed as I dont have a new set to measure.

I dug around and found out this information wasn't readily available on the forum. This is why I created the thread.

I wanted to know the threshold of resistance on the coils and the wires. Which is listed now and by doing a forum search I found those 2 listed as the most used.

As for mine, none of my 5 had the original wires on them. They are mostly unknown type. However, most them have their original coils in them.

So I take it that neither of you have the resistance values of these 3 wires new ?

As these numbers would be important to have so we can compare the wires and have it all on the man post redone

If you search, you will find recent posts of members who got them from dealers. I know, because I said they were not available (which they were not, for a while) and got spanked. I also edited in an Amazon link that I am sure are the Sumis. Mine gave me a solid 100k until I swapped for PM.

Sorry I don't have the resistances.

Ah. I thought they were gone so they did started making them again. Very interesting as I swore they were gone no longer available. That's actually good news.

You might also include these. Lots of good coils get chucked when all they needed were new boots. I recommend doing these when you do wires.

Denso 671-6248 Coil-on Plug Boot

https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

IIRC, there is no Toyota p/n listed.

Yes I will add these into the post. I am hoping we get those resistance of these other plug wires. As that would be good to have too.

Mag core wires are less than 1K ohm per foot. They are steel core wires instead of carbon core and you can get them in 7mm or 8mm cables. I’ve never had issues with the 7mm wire sets.

I used Bosch Premium until autozone stopped selling them. They had a life time warranty. I punted at autoxone when they stopped selling the bosch and figured I’d try their house brand mag core set. It comes with all the clip and mounting hardware. Fit and finish was awesome. But, time will tell.

I’ll never go back to carbon core wires. Ever....

I don't suppose anyone has the information that is missing for the 4 cylinders and the coil information and resistance values missing :-)

Ever....

Mag core wires will be my next set. How much did you pay for them?

The autozone mag set was around 50. But there are other brands. I got those under warranty when the 10 year old bosch set started arching at a spark plug boot.

I have the bosch preimum set on the 86 CJ7 with a complete MSD setup. And they are doing just fine at 60k volts to the plugs.
