Tailgate help

Hello all

I have a 99 limited with a rusty and dent tailgate, and I found a 98 limited same color tailgate and I swapped over to my 99. One of the plugs is not matching up. Just wondering anyone here have a wiring schematics for the tailgate?

The 98 has six wires
And the 99 has four wires

At first I didn’t care, but now I can’t lock my truck. That can be a little hassle

Major difference in wiring 96-98 and 99-02.

May have to switch quite a few things to make it function properly. Or just swap all the wiring and modules out to match what the orginal tailgate was. :-(

All the wiring diagrams are mosly by circuits. I am not sure exactly which diagrams you need. I included the power rear window and wiper.

Thank you.

Swapping the harness over, is that meaning swapping the harness from the 99 tailgate over to the 98 tailgate?

I just went through something similar to this when i swapped an unknown year model but older sr5 rear hatch to my 2000 limited, plan on swapping the harness to the body that goes up the pillar, the module and sheetmetal panel, and the harness that goes to all the components in the door. In my case it also blew the 15 amp mpxB fuse under the hood.

Correct which ever harness and modules that matches the truck. Looks like your is a 99 and the replacement is a 98. So yes the 99 wiring and modules into the 98 tailgate.

The chassis are the same [ shells of the tailgate]

If the witing doesn't match. Be very careful and make sure they are compatible. Plugs not matching definitely means they don't. Extremely common in Toyota to change connectors on circuits.

I’m sorry to ask this, the old tailgate is not with me. How many modules in there?
