forum has a tricky setup since all these 4 runner's are packed into the same pages. many also did not state what gen there working on ..

being a owner of these vehicles it is complicated on what fluids to be used on many GEN runner vehicles.
many jump into these forums to figure out what is the proper maintenance on various GEN spec..

Yes I can see users getting confused on which forum they are posting in. Especially ones that have multiple vehicles of different gens. Always best to follow the vehicle spec on fluids.

Sorry for the confusion! I have a 1997 4runner. I only post in the 3rd gen section, so I wasn't aware of the cross thread issue. I went to a different shop and just went with what the owners manual said. However, they only had MasterPro oil. So I hope MasterPro is of good quality. I'm not sure when the previous owner did the last fluid change, but everything looked super clean! No metal shavings in the dif! So I'm stoked!

if the fluid looks off color then do the fluid change..
previous owner did the proper work on it .. old runner and your comment on the fluid condition no vehicle abuse.. Master pro lube ?

Never heard of master pro gear lube. If it meets the spec for the fluid. It will work just fine.

GL-5 spec. I dont see why this isn't just fine. Others may disagree but it meets the GL-5 specification.

I say when in doubt. Stick with what the FSM states. Lots of times newer spec comes out and we just have to verify its suitable for the application at hand.

I just cringe when someone posts which is the best fluid, oil etc. As those just become opinion threads.
