Squeal at 3mph

Hey guys,

First official thread here. Need some help in diagnosing a squeal on my runner. It won’t happen in neutral on idle rev. Just in drive at about 2500-3000 rpms. I’ve replaced all belts in the past year. New timing belt/ pulleys and water pump last month. The alternator was replaced 2 years ago but is a Chinese aftermarket one but it seems to be working fine. I’m having trouble diagnosing this because I can’t get the noise to happen when the car is parked while running. It is a squeal noise and it sounds like a belt. Doesn’t matter if ac or defrost is on or off. All belts are tight with 1/2” deflection. Happens at about 35 mph whether I’m on the gas or off. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!!

If you are saying the squeal only happens while moving you need to be looking at suspension.
common problems

check rear brakes. see if there is any oil from a seal evident.

grease the universals.

Put Front end up and check the ball joints.

Check front bearings and brakes.

Just keep going through process of elimination.

Thank you I will check all these things tomorrow! It almost sounds like a break squeaker, but I replaced front brakes last may which was about 10,000 miles ago.

Belts will loose after putting them in when they are NEW sometimes they need adjustment. Check for looseness. If you can put your foot on the break put it in drive and increase the throttle you may be able to ID the one giving you trouble if you have some one help you. If you can do it then take some brake clean or some windex spray it on each belt until the bad one goes quiet.
"Careful where you Stand"

You could take off each belt except for the power steering and drive it a short way with out causing any problems to isolate which belt is giving you trouble. Also you can hand spin each pulley to feel for drag also check the idler pull for the a/c as these can get rough.
