Help with transfer case issue-removed rear driveshaft, in 4hi truck is stuck

Hello!
I have a 1999 limited took the rear driveshaft out to find a vibration (ended up replacing it with a used one problem solved) but while I was doing my diagnosis and I had it in 4hi and with the rear driveshaft out It was basically neutral in all gears wouldn't go anywhere almost rolled out of the garage on me in park. a few weeks ago I almost had the rear passenger wheel come off on me cause I didn't torque the nuts properly it was bangin around pretty good caught it in time though! anyways ever since then going into 4hi is a struggle like it only clicks in over bumps or under braking. also coming out of 4lo in finicky the thing blinks at me a lot. before the wheel incident it engaged and disengaged perfectly so I probably messed up something in the transfer case? Differential? I am pretty new to doing my own repairs so hopefully someone can direct me as to what to check. do I need a new transfer case? is it possible to have one wheel that is stuck in 4lo all the time? the other day my left e brake seized and I thought 100% I needed a new transmission the shaking was so bad so you just never know with vehicles! thanks in advance for any help!

Sounds like you have a multitude of different issues. There's a front differential switch that can cause your system to be picky about engaging. It's about 50 bucks from Toyota and you can change it in about 20 minutes. It'll take you longer to get the skid plate down than to swap the switch.

As for the rear, either your linkage is bound on that side, or you have a leaky axle seal and your shoes are swollen.

One thing at a time.
