Power steering - drain refill?

Pretty sure mine hasn't been done in years. I did not find any howto's with a search. Is it as simple as remove/replace fluid? On my old Jeep you just used a siphon and added new fluid and cycled it. Repeat the process 3-4 times and you had 90% of the old fluid out. Will that work on a 3rd gen or is it a lot more complicated?

That'll work just fine but there are some full drain/fill methods out there.
Too much trouble IMO, just do few siphon/fill/wheel crank cycles and then do a siphon/fill with every oil change from here on out.

Both the videos linked are videos @infamousRNR and I have made. If your fluid hasn't been renewed that often, I'd bet your reservoir screen is clogged up pretty good. If it were me, I'd go ahead and do the full flush, pull the reservoir, and clean out the screen as good as I could with brake cleaner. Power steering fluid is one of those fluids that people forget to renew like brake fluid and the chances your screen is mostly clogged is pretty high.

If you go for the full flush and reservoir cleaning, it has been reported that you don't need to run the pump to effectively move the fluid through the system. All you have to do is have the front wheels off the ground, turn the wheels back and forth a couple times until the level in the reservoir drops, refill the reservoir and repeat until the fluid is coming out clean into your catch container. If the fluid isn't moving through the system as people have reported to us with the engine off, you can always do what we did in the video with the engine running.

I recommend you buy the o-ring that seals the reservoir to the pump because it would suck to get everything back together and then find you have a leak.

Good luck!

yep...have the seal handy and replace, not much money. Beats putting it back together and having a leak

I did this last time on my '97 and it worked well. Much nicer than starting the engine and having the ATF pump out faster than you can pour it in.

Another excellent piece of advice.
