Pj Benn's Hawaiian time maintenance and build

Howsit. New 4runner owner from the west side of Oahu. Bought my 1998 Limited 4x4 on new years day. It had 152k miles on the clock. Have been trying to get through all the maintenance and hopefully some upgrades in the future.

previous owner replaced radiator. Also has recently replaced starter, bilstein 5100's, ome 906 rears, front o2 sensor, air filter.

Since I've owned it I replaced the
-oil
-front diff oil
-transfer case oil
-rear diff oil
-rear axle seals
-2 new tires (fronts were cupped bad from unbalance and alignment)
-front brakes
-spark plugs and wires

also added a remote to factory alarm system and replaced the piezo.

Upcoming work
-cv axles (previous owner said binside boots split 3 years ago after lift) *done
-lower ball joints *done
-valve cover gaskets *done
-e locker sensor *wasn’t sensor. Replaced with used elocker
-rear driveshaft check balance/lube
-inner/outer tie rods(?) * done along with new rack
-sway bar bushings
-rear lower control arm bushings

Half way through and then see this

After paying the premium for Toyota parts and waiting over a month this hurts. Guess I learned the hard way to inspect when picking up or at the very least before installing.

Thanks. North shore is beautiful. Been trying to get out that side more often. Traffic can be terrible on the weekends though.

Guess my earlier post was a little dramatic. I thought that bent shield went inside the other side and would interfere with something. It goes outside and after I bent it back seems like seals will still work fine. Hopefully can reboot old cv and it’ll be ok. Not sure how to check if it’s good enough to reboot though

Old one felt really good still. Looked ugly but no tears

Put the new one in anyway. Preventative maintenance

Got most of the carpet done and installed box with a couple turn buckles. Had to get it done ASAP to clear space in garage in case of shelter in place. Might add some handles for aesthetics. Still gotta do the wings and sleeper part. Deciding if I want to use different hinges and legs for those though

The majority of CV axles I've seen from Toyota over the years had that same area folded over & had to use pliers to bend it back to shape. I'm assuming it's from not being very securely packaged during shipping.

Ah ok I guess I can expect the same when I order the next one. Kinda junk because after the ‘paradise tax’ it comes out to $3xx. Considering buying from the mainland and getting it shipped here instead but not if it might get banged up worse.
