Air bag light

Ok. All of the sudden my air bag light came on. I've checked everything I could and have found nothing. I don't have an obd tool, so that's out. Any ideas?

what year is your truck there are 2 different flavors of air bag setups.

96-98 have a distinct set of parts
99-02 have a different similar set of parts but include front sensors.

This is the steering wheel portion of that setup.
SWITCH & RELAY & COMPUTER | 4RUNNER VZN185L-GKPGKA RZN18#,VZN18# | JT3HN86RXW0173191 | Toyota | Genuine Parts Catalogs | PartSouq Auto Parts Around the World

the steering wheel has a spiral cable, it will only go around so many times before it gets screwed up so if you somehow had your steering rack disconnected and your steering wheel spun around a bunch of times #bad.

here is the sensor portion of the setup.
AIR BAG | 4RUNNER VZN185L-GKPZKA RZN18#,VZN18# | JT3HN87RXY0283787 | Toyota | Genuine Parts Catalogs | PartSouq Auto Parts Around the World

does your cruse control work? if it does then the spiral cable portion of the setup is probably ok.

the only other portion is the sensor assebly up under the center bezel. maybe something got unplugged?

It's an 01. Yes. Cruise control works. Nothing recently has been done to it. Just came on maybe 3 days ago.

In your engine bay diagnostic port take a wire to use as a jump wire and plug into AB and TC port. Turn key on to ACC position. Your cruise control light will have a seizure. Your air bag light will go on for 6 seconds doing it's normal self check. It will then do 1 second blinks for however many times, rest 2.5 seconds, then blink 1 second interval again, then 4 seconds off. This tells you your two digit code, then you need to look that code up.

Example: blink 6 times, off 2.5 seconds, blink 4 times, off 4 seconds is code 64.

You may have more then one code. So after the 4 seconds off it may start the second code...

Example: blink 6 times, off 2.5 seconds, blink 4 times, off 4 seconds, blink 3 times, off 2.5, blink 2 times, off 4 seconds. Codes 64 and 32

So watch it until the first code repeats...

Once you fix the problem you need to clear the code. IT WILL NOT CLEAR ON ITS OWN!

Obd2 from dealer is best...make a friend in the repair section, bring him beer and hope he doesn't charge you...

Other wise with key in acc position using 2 long wire. Plug one into tc port and one into ab port. Starting with the tc port alternate grounding them on a body ground for 1 second intervals allowing .2 seconds between switching. Tc needs to be grounded 3 times and on the last one hold for a few seconds.

This is really hard. It will go

Tc ground 1 sec, no wires touch for .2 sec, ground ab 1 sec, no wires for .2 sec, tc ground 1 sec, wires of, ab ground 1 sec, no wires .2, ground and hold tc.

If done correctly your airbag light will hyper flash....code cleared.

Turn acc off.

Restart truck, if still no airbag light you have fixed it. If airbag light returns you did not fix problem...restart diagnostics and chasing the problem.

Hope that makes sense and good luck.

P.S. if you get code 64 it will be an open in right hand circuit. Options are poor connection at relay under intake box in engine, airbag behind glove connection, or passenger seat belt connection. I'd start with the seat belt...

3rd gen, 2002. My airbag light is always ON. Jumpered the AB and TC pins in the diagnostic port and the cruise control light goes crazy. But the airbag light doesn't blink, just stays on continuously. Does that mean there are no airbag codes stored in the control module? There are also no OBD / CEL codes. I thought it was the coil spring cable since the horn didn't work either. Replaced that, but no change. (Horn worked... after replacing a fuse). Finally sent the airbag control module to a 3rd party in Texas to clear the hard codes and crash data (looks like prior owner had a little accident... new used airbag installed prior). That didn't fix the problem either. Any ideas?

Resurrecting this thread; my airbag light just came on today for no reason. Left work, got in the truck, turned it on and after the initial checks, the airbag light remained lit on the dash. I've not done anything different and nothing has changed. I drove home from work and parked, turned the vehicle off. Turned it back on and after initial checks, no airbag light... what the...
