bilstein 5100 and 99 tall coils

If i move up my shocks to the 1.25" setting with 99 tall coils will the overall lift just be 1.25inches or will it add 1.25" on top of the 1" i get from the tall coils making 2.25inches of lift?

that was a little confusing but hopefully someone can answer that

It all depending on what your starting point is. If your starting point is tall 99 coils on stock struts...then you'll gain 1.25 inches. If your starting point is regular stock springs, then you'll gain about 1"-1.5" from using the 99's...and another 1.25 from the struts.

You should gain a solid 2.5 inches doing that.

does anyone else have any input on this? my logic tells me ill only get a little more than 1 inch of lift... am i missing something?

i feel if you move the shock up 1 inch and get a 1 inch taller coil the total lift should still just be 1 inch... right?

I have a 99 highlander ed. but wont claim to be a truck suspension expert nor haven't done extensive reading on the 5100's but my suspension logic tells me that the 5100s wont give you any increase in lift over the height of the 99 tall coils.

Simply because once you exceed the lift of the coils, you are essentially stretching the coil and unless you have something to keep the top of the coil secured to the perch, it'll eventually pop off and just dangle.

But I could be wrong. If you find out otherwise let me know, in theory that would be a cool way to get an adjustable 1-2.5" lift but I really don't think it works like that.

If you’re looking for lift, the spring lengths are what you need to focus on. The gas strut/shock only acts as a damper to the spring, it does not increase the height. The 2 most-important measurements when selecting a strut/shock (not springs or coils) is:

1) the overall length (to make sure it is within tolerance of whatever spring you choose) &

2) the stroke length of the strut/shock

The idea is that the gas strut/shock can fit inside the entire strut assembly (spring, strut/shock, collars, etc) when put together and neither bottoms out under total compression of the spring nor tops out under total extension of the spring.

Hopefully this helps shed some light- I have experience installing coils and struts on vehicles that have no direct replacements (imported Kei cars from japan) and had to purchase the parts completely relying on stock measurements including, lengths, spring rates, stroke lengths, etc.

Excellent answer to a 9 year old question.
