I would guess that your environment in CA is salubrious for the original bushings to remain viable due to a lack of humidity. Here in the South such is not the case, nor is it friendly for seals, plastics, or electronics for the long term. I know it is an easy job, just haven’t seen a video on it.
How about recovering a chair? Have a steamer on hand if you do such.
I just had to replace my original alternator with a Toyota remanned one. The windings and the rectifier were toast. My parts guy said the CS-144 alternator was on backorder as of two weeks ago, at least for him, so I went through a dealer.
...maybe going to a PickNPull and pulling the parts you need from a wrecked rig would be smart to save yourself a bunch of money to get your moonroof working again.
Thanks Tim.
I actually completely refurbished it a couple of years ago by replacing both cable devices and the complex carrier tube contraption that they run inside. I just checked partsouq and everything is coming up NLA now, so salvage yards may be the only source in the future.
The cables work basically like screw style garage door openers that run inside what looks like thin copper tubing at the front of the roof. I can't stress enough for folks to keep their drain tubes clear and to park their trucks under cover if at all possible.
One thing I tried that worked well for me was putting the new bushing on a screwdriver, putting the tip of the screwdriver into the hole where the bushing will go, and just slide the bushing down into position and push it the rest of the way in. Really made the bottom two bushings easy.
That was the same technique I used to get the nuts on the passenger-side studs that held my 1986 FJ60 carburetor on after a rebuild.
Did a quick search to make sure you haven’t done it already, might have missed it though. Maybe a vid on a fuel pump/ignition kill switch? Or a vid on adding a rear window switch in the hatch? Few easy things that seem to be popular and can keep you sane while on lockdown
I would like to find somebody that really needs it so we can show the improvement. Neither of my rigs or Sean's rigs have a shifter with a ton of play, I believe. I'll have to check in with Sean to confirm this.
sorry I know I promised some info on engine removal... things have been a little crazy, I think you also noticed that?
one thing that keeps popping up on the forum a lot is the shift interlock/key stuck in ignition thing. it's a regular question now days probably at least 1x time a week.
I put out a work around hack job vid that has worked for me but it's probably not the best because you can pull the key out with the truck in any gear(for auto trans) possibly a feature? the key interlock part I show in this vid is the business end of the entire "must be in park" to pull the key out safety thing.
maybe some extra info you could work into the shifter bush topic.

I know someone that has done a fuel pump kill switch install and that would be a good video. I guess the only problem with that one is if thieves come across the video and then we are sharing the secret. I suppose thieves aren't watching our videos but maybe they do. I think I will make this video anyway. Thanks for the suggestion.
I guessing a rear window switch in the hatch would be for those who sleep in the back of their rigs on trips? I don't know why else you'd need one there.

Retired FD here, Glad to see your staying sensible about this.
Wish I lived in the Bay area long enough for you to help with a suspension upgrade, I did watch your bumper video prior to installing my 4X Innovations front bumper a couple of weeks ago.

Make the video just leave the location to the user if you did it with a relay you could make the switch a micro switch or the old speaker jack plug method
Do a 5 speed manual swap and rebuild differentials!

I threw it out in a different thread; but what about a video on bearing replacement on a 3rd gen 4Runner spindle? Wish you were closer than 1500 miles away or I would bring mine over. My spindle is getting a new bearing installed this weekend at the mechanic. Then spindle gussets welded on once it gets home. Also what about doing some simple sound deadening install? Doors, floor pan, and such.

A manual swap would definitely be cool and it may very well happen.
Rebuilding differentials is still one of those things I'm not sure if I want to delve into. It seems to be one of those things that take a fair amount of expertise to get right and I think that's why most guys send them out to places like East Coast Gear Supply for the work. Maybe I'll pull a 3rd member from a wrecked rig at a PickNPull and practice before I'd try on somebody's rig.

Our Manual Hub Conversion Part 2 video covers how to replace a front wheel bearing. And, people can use our Upper Balljoint Replacement video to learn how to get the steering knuckle off and back on.
With that said, I'd still be willing to film a dedicated Front Wheel Bearing job because lots of people miss the fact that our Manual Hub Conversion video covers the bearing replacement.

Yeah; I never caught that. I paid no attention to the manual hub conversion video because I did not think about the bearing swap. I'm already running Camburg UCAs so that ball joint is not an issue anymore.
