Synthetic shouldn't be causing any leaks if everything is in good shape. I've been all synthetic in every vehicle for years.

Is synthetic needed? Not going to go there. I see the wisdom in conventional and frequent changes too. I may consider this in the rear diff also.

Is you have a axle seal leak look at your vent.

The passenger rear axle seal is definitely leaking. The driver side is clean as a whistle. Can I get away with just swapping the passenger side?

You should be able to, it likely started leaking because your rear diff breather is plugged so make sure you fix that while you're at it. I just did the passenger side when I did mine as well as extend the rear breather
