No cutting of the existing plastic at all and yep, the plastic pieces that cover the holes (the cargo cover holders) can go right back into place no problem. The only thing is that I did drill that hole and put in a bolt to hold the plastic better than the push tab things. By doing that it REALLY firmed up the whole setup really well.
I also put in those big loop tie-down things but you wouldn't need to do that. I did that to secure my shelf that I put in sometimes. I'll have to post a pic of that later.
Man is it nice to have some decent things to tie off to!
It can handle a lot of pull so smaller gauge ratchet straps although I just like / want to use a variety of pull straps and bungees for most of my gear. Also, a net would work well too.
