Someone tried to steal my catalytic converter.

As the title says someone tried to steal my cat. Luckily I caught him as soon as he started. No so lucky, on the fact the he did cut about halfway through my muffler.

Wondering if JB weld would work?

Thoughts?

Yeah JB Weld has its place, and that’s not it. I’m sure a quick weld at an exhaust shop would be super cheap, and they might even sympathize with your situation and hook you up with a discounted price.

Sounds like it's a one minute fix if you know someone with a MIG welder.

Be on the lookout. Your truck is on their radar now. They could come back for the cat again.

It may be a while, but you’re 100% correct. If not him someone else. I plan on having some sort of theft deterrent by then.

I didn’t, although I agree he deserved it. I did let adrenaline take over and wrestled him down. Kicked the sawzaw away and held him in a modified choke hold until the police arrived.

Looking back that was a dumb move on my part. The guy could’ve easily had a weapon and my life isn’t worth a thousand bucks. Fortunately he wasn’t armed and I have years of folk style & free style wrestling experience so it was relatively easy to apprehended the guy until the cops got there.

Thanks for the suggestion. Called a local shop and they offered to weld it back together for free if I buy a welded cat guard from them. I’m going to take them up on that offer tomorrow.

Please post a pic or 2 of the cat guard if you can. I'd like to see what the shop came up with.

You got lucky, I had mines cut clean off, I installed a straight pipe where the section was cut off and then the original 23yr old muffler blew up about a month after with all the extra flow, changed it with a new walker and everything's ok for now.
One thing I did notice is that I can get tires ripping with ease now and noticed less down shifting when climbing hills. Still need to install the rear O2 sensor mod.
I also made a full 3/16" thick plate to cover the 4 cats on my 2021 4runner. not chancing another theft.

Got a smog test appointment today at 2PM. Not letting it spend another night on these city streets even though reg isn't due til end of April. At least I'll have 2 years to deal with things if they get me before I make a a plate/security device. Every few days there is a news story where cat thieves are caught in the act and just pull a gun and say "what?".

Any possibility of parking in a private garage? That really is the best theft deterrent. Unfortunately these being 4WD with good ground clearance it's just too easy for these dudes to cut them off. Harder with a sedan but that doesn't stop them from stealing all the Prius catalytic converters.
