PO500 Which way to deal with it

So I got a check engine light in my 2001 a couple days ago after I pulled the axle out and replaced it with one from a 2002. It had an axle in it from my 97. ABS has been disconnected with the fuse for a couple years but no check engine light and the speedo/odo has worked until now. After a little research there looks like two ways to go about it, replace the abs computer or put in a speed sensor that runs off the transmission. I am leaning towards the latter as I don't need or want the abs and I certainly don't need the traction control as surprisingly the rear axle has a torson LSD from a lexus. I could replace the abs computer and turn the system back on and then do the andy mod and could do that locally as the 2002 I pulled the axle from(and a few other parts) is in my neighborhood. If anyone has a link to replacing the speed sensor it would be helpful. I know Doc has done it but there are no write ups that I can find

Looking at pictures of 4runner transfer cases compared to tacoma cases that came with a speed sensor it looks like the 4runner case has provisions to mount a speed sensor, you would just need to get the sensor itself and wire it in, I can post pics of the tcase with and without the sensor if that would help

What lexus did your lsd come out of?

Pretty sure the lsd came out of an IS300 as from what I read is the only one they made for the US. Not really sure of any info on it as I am getting it from my neighbor who bought it for the LS1 motor that was swapped in. (second hand info, I will eventually talk to the guy who did all the work as he is local too) The lsd was put in to keep the wheelspin to a minimum, which I gather helped but didn't stop it. Just smoked both rear tires. As for the speed sensor I just figured since the J shift transfer cases were the same for both the tacoma and 4runner it would be easier to find one off a tacoma since almost all the 4runners had abs

if you look at the links on my manual hub thread there’s some info about wiring in a speed sensor, I’m going to pull one off a junk yard Tacoma later this week and eventually do a full abs delete. from what I’ve read different speed sensors correspond to different gear ratios so you might want to check around and see if you can find one that matches what you have
