Yup. I don’t see a center locking diff button. How can you tell if it’s a 99 or 2000?

...Not salt, much worse - Magnesium Chloride and they use more of it in the metro areas than the mountains. In the mountain / rural areas, it's mostly gravel, which they call "sand"...Single pieces of sand fired into the air by other vehicle tires don't break windshields though.
Some of us when at the carwash do bother to spray the underside to keep the mag chloride from doing its work.

OP take note, although western states don't have frame rust (or nearly as bad), most do have failed clearcoat from solar exposure.

Those fender flares are only 2000+. Side view mirrors are different between 96-99 and 00-02. Plus the wheels aren't correct for 01-02 SR5 with flares.

Tail lights are '96-'00 also, along with interior fabric is the '99/'00 version. 01/02 Sports with the wide flares have color matched bumpers, too, I believe.

I'd bet the fella who is selling the 2001 just goofed on what year it is. It looks too original to undergo all of those changes.

'01-'02 Sport SR5 (In 2002 renamed the 'Sport Edition') with the scoop and wide flares received color matched bumpers.
'01-'02 SR5 (no hood scoop) with the wide flares had chrome bumpers. (pic below is this trim)

Yup those too. '99 Highlander is unique in having the bumper valence being bare plastic vs painted in 2000+.

All my 4Runners have leather so I'm not familiar with cloth. I think we need a definitive 3rd gen cloth seat variation thread, because there is actually a lot. Same with the flares. The term "SR5 flares" just doesn't cut it when there are three variations on the SR5.

Hate to be that guy but I recently picked up a very clean, utterly rust-free 2000 Limited E locker with 220k single family-owned (middle-aged sister then middle-aged brother) for 3k. I didn't even haggle. The Toyota shop that did my Wheeler's suspension kit install said they couldn't remember seeing a cleaner frame. I did get down there on my back and cleaned it up cuz I friggen love it, but it cleaned up to nice original frame paint. I think this one lived mainly indoors and I know for a fact it was never wheeled.

I’ve got a 99 limited, leather, locker, lots of maintenance, some mods, supercharger, Clean title, less than 180k miles in Washington State. Rust free, if you’re interested.

Take a look at my build thread and shoot me a PM if you’re interested. I’ve got a for sale ad mostly written that I’d be happy to pass along.
