Part# 17630-15090 control valve on power steering?

Does anyone know what the control valve does that is attached to two vacuum lines? It's on a 2.7L 4cyl if that matters. I broke off the nipples while replacing my belts and see it is an expensive part but for the life of me I can't figure out what it does. it's part# 14 on this diagram Control Valve - Toyota (17630-15090) | Toyota Parts

Air control valves raises the rpm which intern increase the pump pressure helps in steering.
It creates a vacuum when steering wheel is turned raising the rpms. salvage yards will be cheaper.

I've wondered if this could be eliminated altogether. I only see it having any affect at idle and I don't spend a lot of time at idle wiggling my wheels around. Surely when the rpms are up it would be insignificant.

Try just blocking off the 2 air ports and see how she runs!

Thanks I saw that one vacuum line goes before and one after the throttle body. So I assume this somehow reacts to a drop in hydraulic pressure and opens to allow a small amount of air to bypass the throttle body and bring rpm up for more pump power.

I will block off the intake ports for now and if it bogs out at idle I'll eventually get around to snagging one from a junk yard.

Well I drove to the store to get some vinyl #10 screw thread protectors to use as caps. They were very tight, Probably could have used 1/4".

The vacuum leak on the way to the store raised warm idle by 200 RPM to 900. After putting the caps on idle went back down to about 700 RPM. I literally noticed no difference so I have no idea what this thing supposedly did but as far as I am concerned it was an unnecessary part.

I cracked those nipple off when I did my celica PS pump years ago, $250 mistake

I think its suppose to help with far turns to the end of the rack, give a idle up at the extremes. Might stall on a 3 point turn, sub 2-300 rpm I think thats why its there
